Service Pack 4 uninstalls WinDVD 11 Pro!

Post by BF Bullpup »

Hello everyone. A few minutes ago I downloaded a trial version of WinDVD 11 Pro. I downloaded it, registered it, logged in, and activated the 30 day period. I was prompted to download and install Service Pack 4 when trying to play a Blu-Ray disc.

I did so and the installer did something extremely odd... it UNINSTALLED WinDVD 11 Pro! Only the Corel folder remains in my Program Files folder. There is an empty Data folder, and everything else is missing. I tried reinstalling and repatching WinDVD and I kept getting the same result. It is crazy that Corel would release an installer that ends up uninstalling the program it is supposed to patch.

I like the software, but I hope Corel fix the patch soon because I do not want to pay $50 for a Blu-Ray player that can't even be patched correctly. I would contact a tech support person through their web site rather than post here, but it seems I need to actually purchase the software first. Am I the only user with that problem? I have a desktop Windows 8.1 computer with a LG Blu-Ray reader/rewriter. Many thanks.

It changes the install path from "Corel" to "sMedio" inside program files. It also seems to break a few things because now after updating 3D playback don't work. It will start in 2D mode and activate the 3D Vision emitter, then when I put it into 3D mode it goes into exclusive mode and turn off the emitter! Very frustrating.

Having the same issue. Also did a system wide sweep for any file named "sMedio" and that only returned a few scattered files that contain what appear to be encrypted documents.

After it has uninstalled WinDVD have you tried running the patch again to install the patched version
