Problems Importing .png images with transparency
First, let me just say i LOVE LOVE LOVE PSP and have for the last 3 builds. Its hands down faster than Adobe, i can get twice the work done on PSP than with Photoshop. BUT... Corel is the only program that doesn't recognize transparency of any png i import. it comes out blocky and unusable. As ive read about this, forum searches and such for hours. its hard to find the same situation. problem is. i work with AOS the (Android operating system) which relies on .png images. To mod the images to what i like , i either have to use photoshop (which I have since purchased because Corel apparently cant recognize alpha channel in 8 bit images, while freeware, and all of Corels competition does so flawlessly) or i have to upload them to a Pixlr (online), and save the imagesback to pc. In order to get the 32 bit Corel needs to show transparency. which working with android means im doing this with 1,000's of images! i cant do it anymore. I cant stand Photoshop after running Corel. id rather upload and redownload all my images rather than deal with all its much more complicated nonsense.

Re: Problems Importing .png images with transparency
There are also free options like Gimp and Paint.net, no need to use online editors.
Anyway, do you have any examples you don't mind sharing? Also are these images made inside of PSP? Or are they made by another program? I do PNGs a fair bit and have never had any issue. If these are greyscale or limited color palette images you may have to set PSP to view palette transparency. This happens most often with GIFs though, not PNGs.
I doubt it's palette transparency that's the issue. But it doesn't hurt to try it.
Image -> Palettes -> View Palette Transparency.

Re: Problems Importing .png images with transparency
The palette transparency shows the background transparent, but the original image does not "turn" back into the "regular image" . here are just two of thousands i can give you. but the premise is the same.
here is a settings icon
https://www.dropbox.com/s/48zcygvorqumw ... s.png?dl=0
here is a camera shortcut icon
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ou1xrbx0hpct9 ... a.png?dl=0
if you load these with any other program, ie, phtoshop. ill try to use gimp. if there was a multiple file save command. like ill load all my files, then resave them all. then they can be seen in corel.

Re: Problems Importing .png images with transparency
I have just registered and am particularly interested in this topic as I have the same problem. I help to publish a small magazine and we put a different coloured border round each cover: the border is created in X7 and exported as a png with a transparent centre. I have been doing this for some years and the process is very easy. However it does not work in X7. Setting up the export all appears to work as usual but when I open the file it has a white or black background with no transparency. The transparency will be correct in my Desk Top Publisher. The same file will open correctly in X6 and also version 10 so this is clearly a matter of sloppy checking by Corel: little things like this spoil a very good program and Corel's reputation

Re: Problems Importing .png images with transparency
Well....so I've been going over as many of my older books as I can. The problem with this is that I don't think you were ever intended to maintain the transparency once the image was paletted. So converting an image with a 256 color palette into a true color image (which supports full transparency) just doesn't seem to exist. Or at least, not in any way that I can find.
I do, however, have a way to do this. And to do it using the batch process dialog. So you can convert all of your images quickly.
I am attaching a very small and simple script that is designed to convert the image into a true-color image with transparency. The only potential issue that I see with using this script is that I'm basing it off of two images. If any of the other images are different from these two in how they are made, I can't promise the script will work.
Follow these instructions to use the script.
1) Download the Zip file, and unzip the script into your "Scripts-Restricted" folder.
Scripts Restructed is found in your My Documents folder, Under Corel PaintSHop Pro/17.0/Scripts-Restricted
2) Create a new folder where all of the converted icons will go. It's best not to save over the originals in case something goes wrong.
3) Open PSP
4) File -> Batch Process
5) Hit the "Browse" button and add all of the files you want to convert into the dialog.
6) In the Script section make sure "Use Script" is checked and so is "Silent Mode"
7) Select "ConvertToTrueMaintainTransparency" from the list of scripts
In the Save Options: Under Type set it to PNG
9) In the Save Options: Browse to the destination folder you created in step 2
10) Hit "Start" and watch it process all of your files.
11) Assuming no errors occured, and errors can occur. Try opening one of the converted icons and see if the transparency sticks this time.
I can also demonstrate with a video if you need.

Re: Problems Importing .png images with transparency
As long as I've used psp it's never supported 8bit png transparency. Only 32bit. I open them in Photoshop, save as 32 bit so they open right in psp if the need occurs.
