Resize blemish tool

Resize blemish tool
I'm using the Blemish Fixer Tool to remove dust spots from some scanned photos. I have done this in the past, but now I'm having a small problem.
Previously I was able to resize the tool by holding down the Alt key (or possibly the Ctrl key) and turning the scroll key on my mouse. Now that doesn't work to resize the blemish tool. I'm currently running X7 (17.1.0.72) I've also tried it on my copy of X6 with no luck. I can adjust the size by holding down the Alt key while holding down the left mouse button and scrolling. But is not nearly as convenient as just holding down the Alt (or Ctrl) and scrolling.
I did recently upgrade my computer and reinstalled everything.
I'm wondering what setting I might need to change to get this feature back, or has it been removed in a program update.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Running Windows 7 x64 on Intel i7 processor.

Re: Resize blemish tool
I just tried doing it and it didn't work for me either until I clicked on the SIZE box. I was then able to resize the brush by using the scroll wheel. I didn't even have to hold down the ALT key.
Re: Resize blemish tool
Clicking the size box works just as you describe. However as soon as you click the image to remove the blemish the size box loses its focus and I'm right back where I started if I want to change the size again. Thanks anyway.

Re: Resize blemish tool
In X4 it's done by holding the Alt key and left-click-dragging the mouse. It works for all brushes that I know of.

Re: Resize blemish tool
I'm using the same version of X7 and in my case it worked as expected - Alt allowed changing the size of the target. The scoll wheel changed the size of the window. Perhaps X7 needs a reset?

MarkZ,
Are you saying that ALt-Scroll changes the target size of the blemish tool? That's what I remember using. Or are you saying that it takes Alt-LeftMouse-Drag?
This is a fresh install with all updates applied. So it shouldn't be a problem with the installation.

That's what I'm have to use. Muscle memory is making this difficult.Forriner wrote:In X4 it's done by holding the Alt key and left-click-dragging the mouse. It works for all brushes that I know of.

Re: Resize blemish tool
PSPX7 - Blemish Tool. Hold the Ctrl key while pulling or pushing the brush. This increases or decreases the brush size. Works perfectly for me whether I use a mouse or stylus on my tablet. There's obviously a glitch in your version of PSPX7. Did you install the SP1? I did have problems with the Blemish Tool in X6 but this has now been fixed.

Re: Resize blemish tool
Did you change your mouse? Honestly I don't remember ever being able to use the scroll-wheel with alt to resize a brush. I also can't find any reference to it in the help files for PSP 9, PSP X, or PSPXI. So at the very least if it worked, it wasn't an official feature.
I also only have a touch pad these days, I don't use an actual mouse so I can't test it. It could be possible it was a setting in the mouse that simulated clicking and dragging when you used the scroll wheel inside PSP. Only other thing I can think of is clicking and scrolling with the scroll wheel. (alt + middle button and scroll).

Re: Resize blemish tool
There seems to be some confusion here.
1. in windowed mode, left click the image title bar and rolling the mouse wheel will change the scaling of the image
With the Brush tool chosen-
2. Left Click the Brush Size, Brush Hardness etc ... Opacity and roll the mouse wheel and that option will be changed.
This also works with the opacity slider in the Layers Palette (No need for control, shift or Alt keys for any of these)
3. Hold down the Control Key and the cursor becomes an eyedropper tool and left or right click will select that color for the Foreground / Background colors respectively.
All of these have worked in PSP8, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7 for me under XP, Win7 and Win 8.1
In addition for X2 and above
4. Hold down the Alt key and left click drag the mouse up to reduce brush size and down to increase brush size. This also works with the clone brush, and Blemish Fixer and I leave the readers to experiment and see what other tools have this ability.
5. For images that are larger than the workspace, hold down the spacebar and the cursor changes to the pan tool and you can drag the image so that what you are after is in view.

Re: Resize blemish tool
What I wished to say is that Alt plus left mouse button changes the brush size, as I expect. Most, if not all, brush sizes can be changed this way.bob wrote:MarkZ,

I referred to the scroll only in reference to LindaP57's comment about using the scroll wheel. I use a table so virtually never use a scroll wheel.

Re: Resize blemish tool
Thank you to everyone who replied to my question. It seems that old age has finally got me. Apparently I remembered wrong.
ALT-LeftMouseButtonDown-Drag is what works. I'm getting more used to that the longer I work on this project.
Now if only this key combination worked on resizing the scratch tool width.
