Hi,
I have never posted on forums before but I feel I am at my wits end. I have read through other similar posts and I can't seem to find a solution to my problem. My project keeps crashing at 18% rendering. I am currently making a home movie from clips taken from mobile phones - all mp4 files. I originally had some mts files form my camcorder in there, but thinking that they were the problem, I removed them. Unfortunately the problem persists. It still crashes at 18% with no error message and I have to use Task Manager to close the program. I have been using VS for years now and I love it - but I have to say I am very frustrated at the idea of having to completely rework my project. I am probably a fairly basic user, so I feel completely out of my depth when it comes to troubleshooting.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas I would very much appreciate it otherwise I guess it's back to the drawing board and doing the project from the start.
Thanks all

Re: VideoStudio Pro X7 crashing when rendering
Not all mp4 files are equal. If you look at the properties you can see a huge difference. The first file is obviously HiDef while the 2nd is low quality. All the properties are different for the files. This may well be the cause of your problem.
To what format are your rendering? What happens if you render each file separately to your desired format? Obviously you are not going to get any HD quality from that second file.

Oh thanks so much canuck - I've already learnt something - I did not realise that mp4s were different and certainly didn't consider any hi def stuff - like I said, i'm a fairly basic user. The second video rendered fine. The first video, the hi def one, did not render successfully, getting stuck on 99% each time. I usually just choose the "same as project settings" check box when rendering, however I have experimented with all of them - mpeg4, mpeg2 and checking and unchecking smart render (not that I know what that does to be honest).
I have lots of these clips in my home movie - if there is a problem with hi def, is there a way to reduce it down to non hi def? (if that makes sense) The hi def clips are taken with my phone - Sony Xperia -- and the normal clips are taken with my husband's phone. The only problem is, as I do most of the recording, most of the clips are in this format.
Thank you again for your help - I will keep researching and experimenting too.
