resize window problem since x7 update
Hi all, got a weird issue that happened shortly after sp 1 - the smart photo fix window stretches right across the screen and the handles don't allow shrinking (only top-bottom), when it is closed then the main edit window has become stretched and has to be dragged back to the size/shape I prefer. Same in 64 and 32 (am using win7 64). I uninstalled the whole thing - supposedly keeping settings but it didn't! re-installed WITHOUT any updates - and it is still like it. Any thoughts? S.

Re: resize window problem since x7 update
Uninstalling was a bit drastic. You could have restored to factory default by holding the shift key and opening PSP.
It sounds more like a glitch with your PSPX7 as I can reduce the size of Smart Photo Fix just fine. I know this doesn't help your problem and the fact that you reinstalled PSPX7 and have the same problem is due to PSP remembering all your settings. Try default and clear the cache and see how you go.
To clear the cache, go to File, Preferences, Reset Preferences and place a tick in Delete all cache files. You will need to restart PSP. I hope this helps.

Re: resize window problem since x7 update
Hi thanks for quick suggestions (I had forgotten the quick reset!) unfortunately nothing works so far, obviously something odd going on. Before the panic reinstall the photo fix window was actually off both sides of the screen (mad!) but now it stays inside - but still not able to shrink and the main window jumps to that size on closing the photo fix window, also the buttons at the base (the ok and cancel) obscure the pan hand and the 1:1 icons - they only appear if you hover. The mouse cursor changes to the left/right arrow on the sides of the window but you cant actually drag it. Will check if different resolutions make a difference and check graphics updates, but if you think of something else...

Re: resize window problem since x7 update
Your problem sounds familiar. I had the same problem with many controls not being visible until hovering over them but that was fixed in SP1 for me. I know that much of my problems is due to the fact that I have Display (Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display) set to 125%. There are a number of tools in PSP that are wonky because of this.
Check if other large format tool interactions (Depth of Field, Red Eye, Vignette) also have the same problem.

Re: resize window problem since x7 update
Hi, yes partly right - mine is set to text medium (I do not have a 3 foot screen and young eyes!), however, the sp1 makes it worse - I did all suggested, updated geforce and java, no dice - allowed the sp1 update and now it is worse! ie gone back to being so wide it is off both sides of screen. Don't know of a way to remove sp1 so I will have to uninstall all and just have the original x7 version and somehow live with it

Re: resize window problem since x7 update
Well, a not very useful update - the support department tell me that the smart photo fix window is NOT resizable (did you mean you CAN shrink side to side in psp7?) BUT they are not listening! in SP1 the smart photo fix window on my system is too big and stretches way outside the visible screen! this makes it unusable - and not only that it copies the stretched setting to the main window when you close the smart photo fix! anyone else replicate any of this?

Re: resize window problem since x7 update
Resume size to 100% it is causing a problem with PSP. I know, because I had this too. It was reported, but I'll check to see if it's going to be fixed.

Re: resize window problem since x7 update
UPDATE well, I had an interesting remote session with a lovely lady called Simone - the problem with the sp1 has been reported back to the tech guys and, in case this helps anyone else, it is all to do with the interaction with screen resolution/text size/pixels etc. In my case my native screen resolution for a 17inch syncmaster is 1280 x 1074 (and I have text at 125%). Apparently a monitor over 2 years is 'old' (thank goodness that doesn't apply to us over 50's!) and most have much higher pixel count. With all the multiple options of screens and machine types these days the techies are having trouble making things fit for all formats (see microsoft!) and in doing 'improvements' the sp1 broke x7 for me (and probably others). WORKROUND for now the method for using any of these large window adjustments like the smart photo fix is to maximise, do the work, close and go back to mainwindow and restore down - then adjust size as it will have stretched while doing the adjust window. I don't want to work always in max so this faffing about is annoying but at least it keeps the adjust window inside the screen!
