PS Pro X7 update fails
Service Pack 1 install fails with "Feature Transfer Error":
Feature: PSPro32files
Component: PSP Clasic
File: ...x86\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X7\uli3FB4.tmp
Error: the system cannot find the file specified
What can I do about this?

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
I'm having the same problem. I get several "Access is denied" errors for different files, then the "Feature transfer error" "The system cannot find the file specified." After this last message, the installation halts.
I have tried the installation several times. I re-downloaded the update and tried it again; still no joy.
This sounds to me like something Corel needs to address -- a flawed updater -- rather than something we end users can resolve ourselves.

My experience was the same - several Access is denied errors first.

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
Same here. Multiple access denied errors and then finally fails. I checked on the files in question and none of them exist.
Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
Ditto! Been over a week since I received the Service Pack 1 and nothing! Why isn't this issue being addressed by Corel?

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
So, how does this work? We should update as most updates contain security fixes and yet we can't as apparently we have no recourse for getting this fixed. I can't find any phone number or email that doesn't require a fee of some kind. Apparently this forum is not monitored for this kind of issue. Why should I have to pay for a regular update? I've paid for new versions of Paintshop for many years - this is really annoying.

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
I had my Win 7 Laptop hard drive fail just after Christmas. Replaced the drive and fresh install of Windows 7. I took that drive out and added a fresh drive and installed Windows 8.1.
For both I went and installed PSP8, X2, X3 (would not work under 8.1 til I installed all Service packs), X4, X5, X6 (X6 required the Service packs to run) , X7 with Sp1.
No other problems . I am the only user, I only have AVG free, Zone Alarm and Spybot Search and Destroy and Internet Explorer as default browser.
My laptops are Toshiba L750, and L50 A also another Toshiba Satellite Pro M300
No problems in installing and running the final product after multiple installs (I have purchased each version twice to allow for the extra installs, but can only use versions once or twice at a time.
So for me there are no bugs in these program installers.
People having problems may need to communicate more about their systems and do some detective work to find out what in their system is causing the problems. What virus checker, firewall, system brand are you using. Do you have multiple log ins? What other programs are you running that may be causing interference. So far I am only reading of 4 people with a problem in this thread. Four complaints does not make a very repeatable bug.
There is a program called Belarc Advisor which is a free download and can do a snapshot of your computer and advise you of any updates that are missing as well as what programs you have installed.

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
I to have installed various versions of PSP since Jasc on various computers. Laptops and desktops. Apart from early confusion re registration numbers I have never had an issue with installation.
I'm not saying Corel doesn't have issues. Heck no. But I often wonder if so many folks are buying and installing PSP why aren't they all having issues? There are so many many combinations of computer hardware, software, security software etc that Corel actually does a good job to meet the majority of combinations. Unfortunately there will be times when something goes amiss.
That is when Corel is tested. Regardless of how good, or bad, a program is it is only as good as the company that supports it.
regards

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
To the rest of you who are experiencing this problem:
Did you originally install the program to the default location? I did not. In my case, I installed to "C:\Programs" rather than "C:\Program Files". I have been in contact with Corel Support, and I theorized that perhaps the updater has some paths hard-coded into it. The support tech jumped on that, and informed me:
"We encourage our customers to install Corel programs to the "C:\Program Files" path, rather than in another location because additional contents and updates are hard-coded to this path. Thus, the additional contents and updates will look for PaintShop Pro X7 under "C:\Program Files" and it would indeed generate an error if the program could not be found there."
They want me to uninstall, reinstall to the default location, and then try the update again. I haven't done this yet, but I thought I would pass this along to others who are having the problem.
If that is indeed the cause, I am disappointed, to say the least, at the sloppy programming that indicates.
I'll report back again after I uninstall and reinstall.

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
Hi WDMAsh,
I did install in C:\Programs per the default installation. Barring some necessity, I always use the defaults for this exact reason. Actually, I have X7 in BOTH C:\Program Files AND C:\Program Files (x86) - their install did that, not me.
After reading your comment, I thought perhaps the update program was getting confused because I still had versions X5 and X6 installed - so I uninstalled them. Did NOT help.
The update pgm "Feature transfer error" says it can't find .....plat-irix6\jpeC4D0.tmp. What is in my folder is the exact same file string (C:\program files\...etc...) it's looking for except my file is named jpeC4C.tmp.
Well, then I tried the update one more time and got an Access Denied error. I clicked "ignore" and this time the update completed. X7 seems to be working but I wonder what was lost in that "ignore" click?
This is really annoying. Hard to understand why Corel doesn't comment here about this. BTW, how did you contact support? Did you have to pay?

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
Hi Dave and anyone else with this problem or following this thread --
Following Corel Support's suggestion, I uninstalled PSP X7 from my non-standard location and reinstalled to the default location, then ran the update.
Same problem.
I have another message in to Support to see what else they suggest. Unfortunately, I fear this problem is sufficiently new and rare that they don't know the cause (hence Support's eagerness to jump on my hypothesis that my non-standard installation location was the problem). I haven't had previous dealings with Corel Support, so I'm not sure what to expect, but based on experience with support in general, both as a user and as a provider, it wouldn't surprise me if it either takes some time to resolve (arguably, it already has), or if it's never intentionally resolved, and we'll just have to hope that SP2 inadvertently solves it.
As for my method of contacting support, I went through the Corel Support & Learning page on Facebook, and I believe they forwarded the message to the Support team. To Corel's credit, I did not have to pay.

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
Oh gosh, I bought PSP X7 in December, and I've been tearing my hair out trying to updates to install, but they won't. Constantly fails as mentioned by all in this thread. I've searched all over the website, and I can't find any way for Corel to help except to pay them. If their SP1 and SP2 don't work, why should I have to pay for their advice? This is very frustrating. I was a long-time PSP user when Jasc was the owner, now I'm not a happy camper.

New update - same problem. Hard to understand why we are being ignored with this issue. Doubt I'll ever buy another new version. Very unhappy.

Re: PS Pro X7 update fails
I've been itching to upgrade X4 to the latest X7, and see that X7 is discounted on the Corel website. The current prices are attractive, so decided to come in here first and check for any last minute issues. Have installed the trial versions of X5 and X6 but had trouble with them. IIRC X5 had a serious problem with Flash plugin? (not sure - it would hang or crash when going into Corel Guide) X6 installed ok, but on the 1st or 2nd day, it started to crash soon after starting-up! Both of those were no-go's.daveharney wrote:New update - same problem. Hard to understand why we are being ignored with this issue.
So I'd really like to UPGRADE to X7, and will go into the SALES CHAT popup later today and ask a few questions. Maybe waving some 20-bills in there face will get some answers, and maybe the latest NEW install of X7 will have SP2 included? but not counting on it.
PSP has had a lot of similar issues since taking over the program from JASC, whose stuff I used almost daily, like PSP9! which is installed right now actually!! So one could draw a conclusion that Jasc was taken down so as not to compete with and undermine Adobe's high-end monopoly? and all these failures and bugs are in line with that general policy?
Sooo.. should I buy X7 at a discount now? or what?
