wanting to use photoshop text styles from Graphicriver
I found a text style I like; but I don't know if I can use it and it has a .psd and a .asl file but I understand that .asl cannot be used in PSP? I have X5 I see no point in upgrading to X7 until they offer the bundle with Photo/Video studio as they have seemed to leave it out as I'd like the bundle and not going to buy PSP X7 just for the bundle when I need both PSP and Video studio X7

Basically you can't. asl. is a Photoshop function.
ASL stands for A dobe (photoshop) S tyle L ayer. The style is user created and saved as a ASL File. Then it can be shared as that style. To edit the ASL you would need the font used to create the style layer or choose one you have but again not in Paintshop. Photoshop only.
These are the reasons why Paintshop cost you a little over $100 and Photoshop will cost you a few Thousand. (Or maybe not that much being in the US) Chalk and cheese really.
You can create the same affect but it takes time and a lot of thinking out. Or just buy Photoshop is a option.
Not sure how you came to the conclusion what you found on the net was irrelevant ? 10 minutes of search, read and what I found was very relevant.

I have considered getting Adobe cloud which has PS I just want to be able to use it not edit it but not too many places offer stuff like this for PSP or at least I can't find any (although I could use the .PSD though) http://graphicriver.net/item/tech-text- ... arch_thumb
I don't see any point in getting the Adobe cloud just to be able to do this but I might since I don't store anything in the clouds ever and if I need to use PS I can just whip out $75 for one month on the month I need it. I like PSP for its ease of use and better artsy features and stuff that PS does not have for obvious reasons.
so unless I have a way of using those cool font styles in PSP without using PS I guess I am out of luck.
