PSP Pro x6 hangs on loading after ATI driver update

Post by Petejan57 »

Hi

A few days ago the programme stopped working. I had uploaded the newest ATI Raedon series 7 200 driver and think it maybe something to do with that. I spent ages trying to remove the driver and roll back to no real avail, so decided to uninstall PSP, reinstall and go from there. I reinstalled the programme and the service packs and on starting up it worked fine. On adding the creative pack and paint lite etc and starting up it up it hung again.

I removed them one by one and still the programme hangs. I now just have the base programme but on start up it still hangs with the little blue circle spinning in the back ground. It has to be shut down via task manager.

It maybe worth noting that on each clean install the programme works with no problems. On opening it the second and subsequent times it hangs with the dreaded blue spinning circle taking precedence again.

I am running windows 8.1 and have a reasonably high end machine as I also do video editing.

Rondo very kindly tried to help me with giving me access to Corel removal tools and that .net.framework might be an issue but I do not have it installed. I am re-posting this as I now have a programme that I cannot use, and its becoming very frustrating, unfortunately the programme still hangs on the second time its opened.

Can anyone help me out here.

Ta

Did you try doing a System Restore to a point before you installed the ATI driver?

HI Ken

Thanks for the quick reply, yes I tried that but it would only let me go back one day to the 14th !! I remember windows 7 and XP would let you select a calendar day of your choosing to roll back to and I expected that on opening system restore this time round, disappointed ...but maybe operator error on my part.

Can you select other days in windows 8...would be great if you could and I'll certainly give that a go as I think that would resolve the problem.

In the System Restore dialogue box, did you tick the little box in the lower left corner which says 'Show more restore points'?

HI Ken

I tried to do what you asked but there is no box to check unfortunatley. ON checking via google about system restore on windows 8.1 all the authors do speak about the checkbox, but I dont have one showing. Is it safe to assume that the system wont automatically create a restore point when installing something, if so it would be down to me to create the restore point manually and it would then show up on the list. The only restore point showing is on the 15th January when I did a system restore to the 14th January which again was the only one available.

I knew that this wasnt going to help as the new drivers were installed on the 12th, but gave it a go anyway.

Very frustrating.

Hi All

I tried an experiment today....I re-installed psp 5 which I own a licence and it works no problems at all, even with the new ATI drivers installed.

I then re downloaded a fresh copy of psp 6 from Corel and installed it as normal. Like all the other times the first time it was opened it worked no problem, each subsequent opening It got to the main screen then it was the spinning blue circle and nothing happening. When the blue circle stopped spinning you could not do anything with the programme at all and had to close it down with task manager.

I uninstalled the programme this time with revo uninstaller and completely wiped the registry of all things psp 6 and again re-installed the programme. Same old same old I'm afraid. Its as if the programme is looking for a file that isnt there, but after all the uninstalls, re-installs, re-downloads etc etc I'm completely stumped.

Can anyone help out here I'm getting to my wits end.

Have you tried the 'shift-click the shortcut' to start PSP, holding down the shift key when you start the program? If all goes well, you'll be asked if you want to restore to factory defaults (or something similar). Click yes an PSP should run after a short while. Sometimes caches or so get corrupted -or corrupt themselves, it's Corel, and this often works.

Hi Forrinor

Maybe a development here. I did what you suggested and the programme started no problem. It defaults to the "collections" page and on shutting down whilst still on this page and re-opening and closing several times remaining on this screen it worked.

On opening the programme and then migrating to the "computer" page, opening my photos that are all stored on my "E" drive, they opened and I could do what ever I wanted with them. On closing the programme from this screen and re-opening got the spinning blue circle and had to close down with task manager.

Tried the shift click open again and it opened & defaulted to the collections page, and without boring everyone too much, on migrating over to the computer page closing from there and re-opening it goes into freeze mode. It appears that when you migrate away from the collections page something happens that causes it to freeze on re-opening

Dont know if this helps or points anyone else in a direction that would let me use the programme normally.

Cheers again

I had the same bug with PSPX6. It is fixed in PSPX7.
For me going to 'Computer' caused the next session of X6 to load very slowly but it did so eventually.

Thanks Tadjio, your comments are appreciated at least I now know I'm not alone, but its a bit off having to spend £45 to upgrade just to get rid of the problem!!

I don't seem to get the problems that others have been having.
But then I have my programs (X4 above ) set to open in Edit mode.
Maybe set yours like that and close from Edit mode as well and see if it behaves.

I don't use Manage or Adjust modes and prefer to make a copy of images I want to work on in a windows desktop folder which stays open and is only a task bar click away, and drag and drop into the workspace. In addition can work with a number of images dragged to the workspace at once.
