When I select the Pick tool the image on screen is then surrounded by a white dotted line with block holders in the corners and middles of each side. Thus it is easy to place the cursor right up in the corner on the 0,0 spot. At least this is what happens for me. Then I can zoom in to any degree, including 5000% with that corner still visible. Then change to the Paintbrush and insert the dot.

Nope doesn't work like that for me regardless of what I do. Must be somewhere in the setups?

Allow me to waste all of your time with a video demonstrating the difference I see between XI and X7.

Thanks Levifiction. That shows it. Volume was so low that I had to turn all areas up to maximum and still could not hear clearly. You might look into that. Leaving the settings for your video makes it much too loud for other videos.
Yes there is a margin around near the edge which is unzoomable with the brushes, close but not there. And it was available in x3 and earlier . Just gave you a lot of freedom with zooming in that you could move to anywhere in the image to clone or paint without scrolling, hit spacebar and drag, or switch to Pick tool and then back to brush / clone.
Very important when processing hundreds of images in a night. You need the most streamlined process. SO again I continue to use X2 for majority of processing .

Zooming into the corners and edges is not my main problem with zooming with the scroll wheel.
My main issue and workflow killer is this:
While zoomed in I should be able to point to the left, right, up, or down and roll the scroll wheel back and forth by one click repeatedly and have the image pan in the opposite direction.

Related to this issue, another annoyance occurs when using the zoom tool - illustrated for me today. Say when using the tool I draw the area I want to zoom in on with the vertical selection of 200 to 1400 pixels. When I release the view in the window is about 400 to 1800 on the vertical axis and I have to use the side scroll bar to get the view I want - every time!! Very annoying.

I had a chance to try X8 today.
Sad to see this zooming/scrolling issue has not been fixed.
 Looks like I'll be sticking with X3 again.

That's not the issue.
The issue is not being able to zoom into corners, and not being able to navigate around an image using the scroll wheel and cursor position only. This all worked until X4.

Or more concisely use your paintbrush , set your color to one contrasting with the upper left corner of your image(eg red against a blue sky) , set the size of the brush to 1 pixel. Now use your zoom control only and zoom in to the top left corner and paint a red pixel at 0,0. You can do it with PSP versions X3 and earlier, but none of the later ones.

Hey all, I know this is old, but it bugged me too... and what I found was that on my new dual screens (here at work), on the DELL screen, scroll will NOT center as I use the mouse to try and dive in... but slide the application over to the nicer newer HP monitor, and wallah! It works.... weird... as far as my case, it was dependent on the MONITOR! Go figure!
