Project playback black, clips ok
Can anyone explain what is happening in my latest project in X7.6 short( 2/3 sec) clips all of which have an FX applied and that follow others with FX that are ok,do not play back properly. To be honest I have forgotten what the FX is but I think it was used to brighten the clips that I had taken with my cam. This is about half way through a 40 min project. When I play back in the project mode all the clips are black apart from a flash of video in each clip.If I scrub, the project shows ok and they all play back in the clip mode correctly.

Re: Project playback black, clips ok
Hi John
When you say all clips are black, do you mean all or just the ones with FX applied?
I don’t really know what is going on here, it does seem that using (FX) filters may be causing playback problems.
If you locate the clips on the timeline that have FX showing
Double clicking the clip will open the “options panel” below the library
The Attributes tab shows the filters that been applied, in the small panel, below the Replace Last Filter words.
Take note of the names…
You can remove these filters by hitting the “X”
Does that improve playback?

Re: Project playback black, clips ok
Not all clips with FX give play back problems, just 6 that follow other FXed clips that play back ok .On project play back, when it reaches the above mentioned 6 , the screen goes black but if I stop playback, the screen shows normally. Double clicking the clip brings up the attribute panel but the x is greyed out(replace last filter is checked)So, if I understand correctly, even though the clip has the FX icon on it, I am being told that there is no filter applied. The clips properties are vid type H264, Up field 1st,24 bit 1920x1080 16:9 .....................Ken

Re: Project playback black, clips ok
Hi Kenneth
Are you able to render those clips??
Drag the 6 offending clips to the library to create a copy.
Start a new project and drag the clips back to the timeline.
The clips should retain their edits including any filters?
Share – Same as first clip—does that render ok?

Re: Project playback black, clips ok
1 Copied clips to timeline, clips show filters and edits.
2 In new project-share render both same as project settings and same as 1st clip.
2 Message shows in both instances that rendering was successful
3 Playback gives the same black screen
4 Double clicking both AVCHD 44.076 KB File and mpeg movie file 37,366 KB file in working folder with resulting playback via Quick Time gave proper playback view
5 When scrubbing project to find black screen clips and then dragging each one to the timeline, the rest of the clip plays ok

Re: Project playback black, clips ok
Hi Kenneth
So whats different with those clips? are they a different type?
You say the thumbnails show a FX symbol, yet the Attributes tab showing the filter panel as being empty.
I would have expected some entry there.
Unless there are other editing that show FX?
At least we know that rendering creates a good video?

Re: Project playback black, clips ok
The offending clips are the same type, taken on the same day with the same camera in between clips that playback ok and are of similar length. The preceding clip had FX, the following clip had no FX the following one did. Not sure what you mean when you say” Unless there are other editing that show FX”.Is this issue a question of knowing why Quick Time plays them back ok but VS does not ?Are these clips going to play back on a DVD .Shall I just make some screen shots from these clips and use them instead ?

Re: Project playback black, clips ok
Hi Kenneth
If you have inserted the 6 clips to a new project and they still show the black playback.
Render them to a new file, maybe Same as First Clip
I would think the new file will play ok.
If you wish to create a Smart Package of the 6 clips, zip the package, upload to windows One Drive.
Provide a link so we can download. We can then investigate the problem.
If you don't use One Drive I will try and send you a link, let me know?
