Since Corel seems to have no official pre-sales support, I'll ask the question here:
I intend to buy the 32-bit version of Videostudio for my Windows XP machine (am currently on the trial version and the product seems to meet my needs). No doubt I will be forced to migrate (I have held on to XP longer than most ...) to another machine (it will be a 64-bit Windows 7 for sure, no super-sized Windows 8 phone look-alikes for me, thank you!), say in a year from now, at which point I would like to be able to install the 64-bit version of VideoStudio on my new machine without having to purchase the product again.
Is this automatic? I.e., will my license or registration key "just work" across both versions on different machines? Is there a limit to the number of activations? Is there a time-limit on how long after purchase an activation can be done? Do I have to make sure to download both versions now?
Oh, another related question: If I purchase V7, for how long will I get a complimentary upgrade to V8 should it come out shortly thereafter?
Thanks!

Re: Installation question on 32-bit vs. 64-bit
FWIW. I just bought VS prox7. It has both 32 and 64 bit versions. One key.
I don't know of any software that will give you a free upgrade. Although there is scuttlebutt that MS might give W 8 owners a free upgrade to W 10.
My W8 boots to the desktop and is a full, efficient, and quick OS. I can get around faster on it than on my W7 machine. I only mention it because you felt the need to bring it up.

Re: Installation question on 32-bit vs. 64-bit
Hi
Although Corel support is a bit lacking they do run a Facebook page, as far as I know staffed by Corel employees, asking there should get a more official reply.
The trial version of Video Studio X7 has been cut down, we assume to reduce file sizes and download times.
Smart Sound and Bluray authoring we believe are missing.
The purchase version will include the complete program, at 2 Gb ish.
64bit / 32bit you should download both versions, your serial number will work with both.
I save my downloads to disc along with any serial numbers as a backup (bluray 4.3 Gb disc)
I have not had any problems with activation/registration limitations, although I only re-install on the same computer, then provide my Corel registered e-mail address to access the Corel guides.
The EULA says you can install the program on one computer only, I don’t know how they know…. But you can install on the new machine provided you uninstall on the old pc, which you would do anyway.
There are two versions of Video Studio, the Pro and Ultimate, both programs are identical, however the Ultimate comes with additional software (Bonus File) NewBlue and ProDad products, view the Corel site for details, difficult to decide which you need when there is no trial for these bonus files.
There is no free upgrade to the next version but a reduction in cost for users owning the previous two versions.
Hope that helps

Thanks, definitely helpful!
I'll probably go with the Ultimate for the modest $15 price difference. Any idea/rumours on when V8 might be out?
