Hey all,
I have seven cpt-files but no possibility to open the cpt-files and change them to a commen filetype like .jpeg.
I tried to install XnView and the test version Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X7 but which both programms it was not possible to open the cpt-files.
So can someone help me how can I open these files?
Thank you very much in advance for your answer!!
Ramona

CPT files are the native file format of Corel PhotoPaint, not PaintShop Pro.
Download the trial for CorelDraw, of which PhotoPaint is part of it.

And if you have any trouble opening them in PhotoPaint, don't come back here for assistance, as we don't cover PhotoPaint in this forum. There is a separate forum for that at http://community.coreldraw.com/talk/

Re: have no Corel-software, need to open cpt-files
Similar frustration here. Yesterday I bought PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate thinking that it would open my old .CPT files from PhotoPaint (Corel 9). This morning I am extremely disappointed that to find that is not the case (yet will import .PSD!), and Corel phone support isn't even familiar with this situation. (They've opened a ticket for Tech Support to get back to me tomorrow, Monday.)
FWIW, here is the core of a chat session on January 9, 2017. Note that Support's advice differs from what I've learned in this forum. Apparently Chat Support was incorrect.

Corel Support: PhotoPaint 9 is not compatible with Windows 7.
Me: In that case, how do you recommend I convert ver 9 .cpt files to psd (or layerd PDF might do)?
Corel Support: I would suggest you upgrade your software to paintShop Pro X9
Me: I see that I once upon a time (probably 2005?) tried Graphics Suite 12 trial version. Is there a trial version available? (of any suitable program) 2005-12-15 CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12.0 TRIAL DR12WTX-1740841-KCM
Me: However, I just did a quick check at Amazon and I see that Paintshop Pro is aobut $50. That is within my budget and certainly worth it for this task. Three questions. 1. Is that the program you're suggesting? 2. Will it convert/save a layerd cpt file as a LAYERED psd? and 3. Will I need to open and resave each file individually, or can I batch the process?
Corel Support: We have CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X8 trial available.
Me: Who knows, maybe you'll convert me back!
But the same questions.
Me: I'm downloading it. It hasn't (yet) said how long the evaluation period is. How long?
Corel Support: This will be good for 30 days
Me: Thanks. And you say if all I want to do is convert the files (for now) would Paintshop Pro X9 do the job just as well?
Corel Support: Yes. You can export to various file formats.
Corel's Graphics Suite opened the .cpt files I tested, but note that, twice, Support indicated that PPX9 would meet my need (to "export to various formats" first I would have to import, right?). The only solace I can take at this moment is that the Rep I spoke with today at least didn't try to answer what she cannot.
I suppose the most I can hope for is that Corel will restart my 30-day trial period and I can engage in a flurry of conversion over the month. With such confusion, I'm not inclined to spend three times as much to upgrade the Suite, which I do not otherwise want. (PhotoPaint was in some ways better than its Photoshop contemporary, and I was looking forward to getting reacquainted, but I that old version of Photoshop still meets my needs, and I have VideoStudio 2018.)
Till the morrow.
