When I import a .mov into VSP the preview is black. (The audio still plays though).
I already installed SP1 and made sure I have the latest version of quicktime. I read something about ulmp4lib.dll and found a Corel page that was supposed to provide it. However, when I clicked on the link I was asked for credentials and my Corel userID wouldn't work.
I tried to attach a sample video that causes the problem but couldn't because it's so big. I can't make it smaller because of the above problem. So, it's also available here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/miv8heelk5n2c ... 2.MOV?dl=0
Any ideas?

Hi
Yes quite annoying that the Knowledge Base seems to be having link problems.
If you got as far as the download link, try right click “Save Target As”
I have attached the files here, one for 64 bit and then 32 bit?
Make a copy of the existing ulmp4lib.dll, replacing with the new file.

I have downloaded your sample and unfortunately the fix at least for me did not work.
I have no idea why your video does not work, but they do seem to be having some problems editing Mov h264
I would contact Corel on their Facebook unless you have free support.
Otherwise use a video converter to create a more editable format.

Trevor,
Thank your for the complete and prompt response!
The new .DLL didn't fix it for me either. Thanks for providing it though, I'm sure it will allow me to avoid other problems.
The file is captured from a dashboard camera I'm evaluating. This started when I wanted to post sample videos. I did go the video converter route but, as you know, each "step" degrades video quality and between the conversion and editing the result was not representative of the original video.
I'm starting to think there is something wrong with the way the video is encoded, what with so many editors failing. (VSP, CyberLink PD12, and AVS). AVS kind of surprised be because up till now it's been my reliable editor of last resort.
Great suggestion about embarrassing Corel in public! I never realized how draconian their support policies were until I ran into this issue. Good thing they have a vibrant and responsive user community to back them up.
Thanks again,
Bob

Hi Bob
I have run a few more tests, some users had problems using X7 with SP1 so I tried but no improvement.
Playing the file using VLC Media Player was ok, quite impressed with the quality.
Then I tried Video Studio X6, interestingly that version played the video, a little jerky on my pc but Smart Proxy seemed to help.
I’ll keep trying a few more options using X7 but don’t think I will improve things.

You might also want to look at this post from another user with a similar problem. He found a solution: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55560
In the meantime, I used a freeware program called Format Factory to convert your .mov file to mp4. It is fairly fast and provides as good quality as your original. If you decide to download and install Format Factory, just take note of what I said in that other thread and be careful to decline all the other things that Format Factory's installer offers to install at the same time...

Just to add, I can confirm that the blank timeline MOV video is also a problem on my system.
W8.1, x7 pro, latest Q time. (My personal opinion of quick time is very low. It is unfortunate that so many applications use it. Yes, it works across platforms, but not as well for Windows as native Windows players. Plus, if you want a version of QT that is useful, you have to buy the PRO). Using my favorite converter to make an mp4 yielded poor results, while an WMV worked great.
