Hi, I'm having trouble getting WinDVD Pro 11 to run at all. It only shows the splash screen, then closes without error and no event log.
Could this be that I didn't select a region on the installer? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the option is greyed out now that I've installed it before.
I've tried the following:
1. Run as administrator
2. Run in XP compatibility
3. Run in Vista compatibility
4. Disable desktop composition
5. Disable antivirus / firewall (as a similar sounding thread suggested)
Is this a known problem with any other solution?
Regards
James

Hi James
and welcome to the forums…………
we are not Corel employees, simply users of the software trying to help others.
I am aware that the trial version has been modified of late (functional reasons)
You seem to have tried all options that we would advice.
I doubt that it’s the region selection as it should run first, then allow region changes.
You may be best in contacting Corel via their Facebook account
https://www.facebook.com/Corel
Hopefully they will know about any current issues.

Re: WinDVD Pro 11 Trial shows splash then closes
Hi and thanks, I've just sent them a message on Facebook.
Do you know what version wasn't "modified"? All I need the software to do is play 3d blu rays properly (neither of the two other "options" work properly for this)
Do you know where the region selection might be stored in the registry? I have a feeling that the lack of a selection at all (and yet still saved in the registry) might cause this to happen.
Regards

Re: WinDVD Pro 11 Trial shows splash then closes
Hi James
When I said modified I was referring to the trial version.
Corel then brought out a series of Service Packs the latest being SP4.
I doubt if you will be able to download earlier Service Packs.
My older trial version does not have any regions selected and works ok, so I doubt it the regions are the problem, and sorry but no I don’t know where they are saved in the register?
I think you may have to wait for Corel on Facebook to reply?

I know what you mean about just waiting, I've already wasted a solid day trying to sort all issues with 3D and software in general. The number of bugs I've come up against in the last few days is so frustrating!
What sort of functionality did SP4 bring out of interest? Do you by any chance still have the old trial installer?
Regards
James

Re: WinDVD Pro 11 Trial shows splash then closes
Hi James
I had my own problems using Win DVD, all I needed was the ability to play the BDMV folder including menus. The trial version did that, so I purchased, installing the purchase version is when the problems started.
I could no longer play those BDMV folders well not the menu structure.
Many moons later I request a refund, this was accepted, I am still waiting for the money.
Corel then modified the trial version removing the ability for it to play those BDMV, go figure.
Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the original installation files so I cannot re-install, and the new ones don’t work for me.
Good luck with your problem, hopefully Corel will reply.............
