laggy/choppy playback after ive either uploaded or burned to

Post by delboy_c »

Hi there,

This is my first post, go easy on me. I currently use windows 8, 64 bit with videostudio ultimate 7.

I've recently learned about smart proxy which I use when making my videos in the time line. My camera that I use to record footage is a Sony something but captures in 1080p in MPEG 4 & GOPRO hero 3 also 1080p but AVI files I believe.

So I make my videos in the time line, once completed I have uploaded the 7min clip to you tube but its clear straight away how laggy & choppy the actual video is. Sounds are great. I also burned to DVD after numerous & hours attempts & I have the same leggy/ choppy playback . I just want my videos to play normally and smooth, how they are supposed to.

What can I do? I'm doing something wrong somewhere?

This is not a plug but here is the link to the video I made that shows the problem, leggy/choppy playback

It would help to know the exact file type from the sony camera, so if you could find that out, or tell us the exact model.

I'm thinking though, there might be a difference between the format of the files you are using and the format you are saving as.

What settings did you choose to output as?

I'm taking that the saved video file direct from Videostudio is just as laggy as the youtube uploaded file?

Hiya,

Thanks for taking the time to reply :-)

I have a Sony DSC-HX60V & A GOPRO Hero 3 black edition.

The file type from the Sony (according to VS ultimate 7) is PAL HDMV. When I come to creating a DVD (Blu ray once I can afford an external blu ray rewriter) I choose MPEG4. I have copied the following properties:

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 15000 Kbps
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 256 Kbps

You are right about the laggy video is just the same as the upload to youtube.

Any ideas what im doing wrong and more importantly, What I need to do. Thanks for your reply.

All the best

Derek

I can't really comment on the You Tube aspect as I have never uploaded anything to it... but I understand that mp4 is the usual format for it, so you should be doing the right thing there.

As for DVDs, mp4 is NOT the correct format. The international DVD standard specifies mpeg-2 with certain specific properties, though the default MPEG-2 properties in Share follows that standard.

Incidentally, the GoPro Hero 3 films in mp4 as well, though it can do so in not only 25 fps Frame Based but also 50 fps Frame Based. (I know since I also have one and use it a lot...) So in theory at least, the output of the two camcorders should work together quite well...

The only thing that I can think of is that indeed you have set up the GoPro with some other Properties which somehow or other clash with the Sony video. So can you right click on one of the Hero clips in the VS timeline and copy ALL its Properties here, please, or take a screen grab of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment.

The other thing we need to know is something about your computer. If it is underpowered, that alone could explain laggy and choppy output as you need a fairly powerful computer these days to both play and edit the demanding high definition format you are using.
