Noise removal improvement needed

Post by Vernie »

Attached is a sample 100% crop from a Nikon D5300 at ISO4500. Showing without noise removal on AfterShotPro2 2.1.1.9 and removal capability of AfterShotPro2 2.1.1.9 Perpectly Clear as compaired to that from camera JPEG. The Perfectly Clear noise removal needs an improvement and it would be best not to generate those artifacts. A film grain effect would be best here as demonstrated by the JPEG from camera.

The color is also off on the NEF file here as compaired to JPEG from camera with a warmer tone since AfterShotPro2 2.1.1.9 rendered Nikon D5300 NEF files with more green color.

Indeed, the result is not the levels of other existing software. Even older versions with NoiseNinja were much better.
Just compare the result with ASP and high iso DXOPrime to cry.

Unfortunately, no answer to the problems here. I submitted a bug with the D4S and optical correction but no response and no correction despite two already update the software.

If I was not on Linux, a long time ago that I would have left the software.

Sorry for my bad English.

Use Wavelet Denoise. Not perfect, but the only alternative in AfterShot right now.

cheers

NR is the Achilles' heel of ASP, which makes it hard to use it as an all-round raw converter. Which is ironic, given that Noise Ninja was such a good option in Bibble 4 & 5, and was a selling point for me. The rest of the world has advanced, but ASP has regressed. It's not Corel's fault that NN is gone, but they need to find something a whole lot better.

Does the RAW Noise option do anything at all? Nothing seems to change with this option. Working on NEF from Nikon D3000
I will try Wavelet Denoise as suggested, but it seems odd for the built in Raw Noise to not to do anything.
Perfectly Clear does seem to work, but a high ISO shot of my 2 year old, to get rid of most of the noise his skin ends up looking like porcelain doll or something.

Has Wavelet Denoise been released for the 64 bit version of ASP Pro 2 yet?

The download link, http://www.aftershotpro.com/en/plugins/waveletdenoise/, says the 64 bit versions aren't available but since these aren't Corel's plug-ins, the page may not be up to date.

I've been getting very weird results with Perfectly Clear's noise reduction with JPGs from my Canon 7d Mark II... sometimes it is fine and works great, on other images in the same batch it produces a weird water colour like filter effect.

If the 64 bit version of Wavelet Denoise is available please share the link!

None of us know how. Corel was harassing the devs to compile for 64 bit before the release of ASP2, but as far as I can see, have done nothing with what we produced and sent them.

I suspect that the gaps are part of the issue - i.e. a few key ones can't be migrated as the dev won't / cant' / can't be found.

This was always the weakness of the model that Bibble Labs used - to rely on plugins rather than create functionality yourself. Corel just made it worse, but ignoring the product for several years and driving many people away, including some of the devs.

Promises made but not kept are a sign of your having been embraced by the Corel corporate beast. :(

Hi all: I haven't forgotten about our last conversation about plugin development at all. In fact, there's been quite a bit happening on the plugin front. I just needed to make sure a note was being sent to developers directly before posting an update here in the forum. My latest thread in the plugins section should give you a better idea of some of the planned next steps: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=55679

Well done Alex.
I do feel though that in this era of near instant communication, the wheels within Corel must grind very slowly!

@spoilerhead, sweet, thanks for providing the link instead of just a snarky comment! :D

Is it just me or are the forums a pain to "catch up" with and search compared to other forum based sites? I find new topics/posts aren't easily identifiable, but may I just need to get phpBB.
