WinDVD Pro 11 Service Pack 4 not working

Post by TullyBascombe »

I've been using WinDVD Pro 11 for 2 years, recently I put in a Blu-ray disc and was prompted to upgrade the player. I installed the service pack 4 and checked off "Launch when finished". After finishing a box appears asking me to select WinDVD as the default player for various media file types. When that's done the Corel WinDVD logo appears, vanishes after a second and the player doesn't start. It won't play any media, blu-rays, DVDs, or internal media files. I tried removing the patch, it deleted WinDVD also. I re-installed the original WinDVD Pro 11, it still works, but can't play the latest 2014 titles. Re-installing the patch produces the original problem. I tried contacting Corel, but I'm not getting any answers. Does anyone here have any ideas?

Hi TullyBascombe

And welcome back to the forums

Sorry you are having issues with the latest service packs, there are a few posts referring to similar problems, as one of the Corel employees (arischen ) visited the forum I assume they are aware of problems with Service Packs.

I assume you have tried contacting Corel from their support pages….Can you try contacting Corel via their Facebook account.
You

As for fixing the program are you not able to install SP2 or SP3, I assume they should install your last working version?
do you know what version that was?

I'm corresponding with a Corel tech support person via e-mail, but not getting anywhere. Unfortunately when I installed service pack 4 I lost the previous service packs and I don't know where to download them, they're no longer offered on the Corel website.

Hi TullyBascombe

Would you please send the version information (ex: 11.0.0.342), system information (ex: Win7 SP1 x64), and the serial number to my e-mail account? (aris.chen@corel.com)
I will discuss this case to WinDVD engineering team for problem solving.

Thanks,
Aris

I have been a big WinDVD user advocate for many (at least 15) years, but a year and a half ago I had to switch to Power DVD Ultra because WinDVD did not support Windows 8. I'm fed up with PowerDVD Ultra due to annoying voice sync issues and less than punchy 3D Video. The 3D visuals in WinDVD (prior to my switching to Windows 8) were far superior and I never had any voice sync issues.

So now that I see that WinDVD supports Windows 8, I want to switch back. Problem is when I tried the TBYB version two of the three 3D Blu-ray movies I tried produce terrible shudder and pixilation on the right eye image.

You are discussing Service patch 4 here, but I only see service patch 3 in the "updates and patches" section of the corel WinDVD web site. Has Service patch 4 been removed temporarily, does it address this issue of shudder in the right eye image? The movies I had difficulty with were "Prometheus 3D" and "Pacific Rim 3D". The one which worked (no shudder or pixilation) was an animated feature film "The Guardians of Ga'Hool 3D".

Hi

There does seem to be some problems for some users.
I found SP4 from the link WinDVD at the top of this forum, then choosing Support

http://www.windvdpro.com/en/support/updates/

Aris, from Corel support has been visiting this forum hopefully he will read your post.
Otherwise try contacting Corel on their Facebook account.

I have my own issues that the program will not play Bluray Folders + Menu unless I ran the trial, now Corel have fixed that. No version plays Bluray Folders, anyway that’s another story.

Good luck with SP4 maybe it will fix the trials problems.

I know, I know! When you click on the Service Pack 3 HTML it downloads Service Pack 4 ! Evidently Corel hasn't bothered to change the HTML, thy merely changed the file it links to.

Okay, I applied service patch 4 to the trial version, but the shudder and pixilation is still present on the right eye image. My hardware is definitely capable of handling the 3D because it worked in Windows 7 and it works in Windows 8 using Power DVD. Hopefully a tech will see this and respond.

I upgraded my system to Windows 7, WinDVD Pro 11.7 (WinDVD Pro 11 upgraded by service pack 4) now seems to be working with internal video media, DVDs and Blu-rays.

I am also experiencing issues with WinDVD11 Service Pack 4 giving error about "invalid serial number" and deleting the earlier installation completely. Same thing occurs with Service Pack 3.

When I reinstall the original 2011 version, which I bought in May 2014, the Preferences --> Information shows version my 11.0.0.342.521749. When I check the WinDVD.exe version info it is 11.0.0.349, file timestamp is 2011-10-17.

I have been re-activating the program via Corel Guide --> Options --> Register Now. When I check the About Corel WinDVD, it correctly shows my userid and a serial number. The funny thing is, the re-register never actually prompts me for the serial number. Presumably its stored in the Registry. Also, the displayed serial number is slightly different from what was emailed to me when I bought the product.

Hi jrbrearley

Sorry you are having problems with the program, we do not work for Corel so cannot really help with the Service Packs problems.
We are just volunteers trying to help with program issues.

I do know that Version 11.0.0.342 was provided as the trial version, and is the one I have installed. Other versions just don’t do what I want.
Installing any service packs will first uninstall the program, then install the new version.

You may be best contacting Corel on their Facebook account, as far as I know staffed by Corel
arischen from Corel support has visited this post in the past , Hopefully he will read your post to give help.

In the meantime install the purchased version. If you do not need the new service packs then don’t install, sorry I cannot be more positive.

Hi Jason
And welcome to the forums
We do not work for Corel, we are just volunteers trying to help others.
As such we do not have access to the Corel files, I am afraid you will have to persevere with Corel Support
I don’t see any reason why they cannot provide the software before Service Pack 4 except the latest update is SP 7 in 2016, quite old, have you tried installing that.
