Any advantage to using GoPro Studio before import to VS?

Post by wsalopek »

Hi guys...

Folks talk about GoPro Studio being necessary to convert GoPro MP4 files to a format that is more "editor friendly".

GoPro Studio converts the MP4's on the SD card to an AVI or MOV file (that is MUCH larger), and uses the Cineform codec?

But is this step necessary when using VS (7)?

For the video I am doing now, I am not interested in using fisheye correction...or any of the other adjustments GP Studio can make. So is there any advantage at all to run/convert the files thru GP Studio before importing into VS?

Thanks...

In a word, no. I have the Hero 3 Black Edition, and I use Video Studio X6 and X7 almost exclusively for editing the mp4 footage from the Hero. I say 'almost' since I do have GoPro Studio on a couple of my computers just in case. But so far, I have only ever used it experimentally, to see how it works (which it does)... I also use proDAD's proDrenalin to correct any fisheye (as well as other optimisation/stabilisation of GoPro footage) which I find better than Studio... But I have never had any trouble at all inserting the mp4 from the Hero into VS and editing to my heart's content.

Incidentally, while writing this, I got a message from GoPro saying an update is available for Studio! Currently downloading...
