For years I have made a youth football video for our season. The format is essentially the same, with stills, videos, music. It is about 45 minutes long, and I have used videostudio for several years. I have over 150 hours in this project, it is "due" in 3 weeks, and I can't get it to render into a video. In Share, I have tried different choices, preferring the AVCH, saving to my hard disk so I can eventually burn copies onto dvds and give to the players. This has worked flawlessly in the past. When I render, I get somewhere down the road (between 10% and 45% complete) then the program locks up. Normally, I can render a video in about 1.5 hours. I have left this going for over 24 hours, with no change to the % complete. I have a 3 terabyte hd, half filled, 16 gigs ram, substantial processor and video card. Same computer it worked on last year. I also test rendered a 50% complete file in October, it rendered fine.
Things I have tried: I have saved the file as a different name, no success. I have deleted 1/2 of the file (the 2nd half) and saved it as a "first half of project" (trying to see if it was size related or an error in the 2nd half that was hanging me up). That resulted in the file hanging up at 10%, one of the lowest %s completed I have achieved. All of my stills and videos are full HD (same as previous years). I am not, by any means, a strong user, but I can get around and have never had any issues with this project. I assume one of the suggestions will be to remove the program and reinstall it. Perhaps there are other things I have not tried. Any help greatly appreciated, I am under the gun!!!!
Thank you.
Gregg

Re: Videostudio Ultimate Locking Up on Rendering
Can you render anything at all? Just a short video of a few minutes to test if the program still works.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate Locking Up on Rendering
No - that was my point in cutting the files in half - to see if I could render anything. AM I missing something - how do you propose I render a few minute video? Thanks.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate Locking Up on Rendering
Hi Gregg
What version of Video Studio are you using.?
If your render is stalling at a particular point (%) then most likely there is a corrupt clip or maybe you have used a combination of FX filters. Certainly something is affecting the render.
Using a process called Nesting can also cause problems, that’s adding a VSP to the timeline, maybe by mistake rather than a video clip.
So does the render always fail at the same point.?
You can render parts of your timelines by setting the Project Range.
Read this web page , second down referring to Project Playback Range.
http://lata.me.uk/corel/bluebar/blue_bar.htm
Basically when in Project Playback mode if we set the Mark-In Mark-Out points an orange bar will show on the timeline.
Playing the project will play that range only.
Share –rendering has an option at the bottom (X7) to “create Preview Range only”
For earlier versions available from the Save Window -- Options button before hitting save.
Ok
If you zip your VSP file, attach to your post, we can view the content, we cannot view the actual video files, but maybe see anything that looks abnormal.
Worth a look any way.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate Locking Up on Rendering
Thank you, Trevor - great answers. I am using X7 ultimate. I took your suggestion and cut the video down to a third (the 1st third) by using the trim handles and attempted to render. Previously, it hung up at 42%. It still hangs up at 42% (task manager says Corel not responding - I have let this "run" for hours, it never gets off 42%). I don't have a vsp in the timeline.
To make things more interesting - I smart saved my project, moved it to my laptop, and it rendered (unfortunately, not the finished product). However - it had been some time since I have used VS on the lap top, and it was asking me to download the latest patch. After I did so, it would not render again, hanging up at 42%.
What does the create preview range do? How can I use that to help determine my issue?
My file is 8 gigs - if I zip that, will it be small enough to send?

Re: Videostudio Ultimate Locking Up on Rendering
Hi
If installing Service Pack 1 has caused your problem then you should re-install the program, that’s the only way I know of to remove that patch.
You could of course try System Restore on the laptop as you recently installed SP1.
Unfortunately I am not sure if System Restore will remove SP 1.
There were some problems for some users after installing SP1.
Project Range.
From Project mode, (the word Project is highlighted adjacent to the play button.)
If you set the Mark-In Mark –Out (F3-F4) an orange line will show at the top of the timelines.
Playing the project will play that selection.
OK
Try placing your curser at 10 minutes, press keyboard F4, or click the “Square Brackets” next to scissors, an orange line will start at the beginning to the curser.
Share – Choose your template option, to the bottom of the panel select “ Create Preview range Only”
That will render the first 10 minutes.
Set the range from 10 minutes to 20 minutes, again the render will use the selection.
Of course you can select any range, some video may have a suitable scene ending.
Unfortunately your problem did occur after installing SP1.
By creating the Smart Package saves the entire project, backing that up…
You should be able to re-install without losing anything from your project.
Do not install SP1.
8 gb is far to large to upload
From the timeline can you right click one of your original clips, choose properties, what are they?

Re: Videostudio Ultimate Locking Up on Rendering
Trevor-
I have found some success. I was going to uninstall x7 and re-download it. I noticed that x7 was an upgrade version from x6, which I still had on my hard drive. Never had a problem with x6. I opened my working file in 7, did a save as, as a version x6 file, opened it in 6, it rendered fine. That is a good enough work around for me. Thank you for all your help, much appreciated!

Re: Videostudio Ultimate Locking Up on Rendering
Hi Gregg
When you download X7 you should save that as a backup, there will be some time when the download is not available.
It would be interesting if running the program without SP1 fixes the problem?
Your Laptop seems to indicate that?
