Denoise filter

Post by erdna »

The Denoise filter in VSX7 doesn't seem to interpret key frames. Right?

Hi Andre
Well yep that customise key frames does not seem to work correctly. it appears to affect all Key frames.
As though the De-Noise is an Auto selection where you cannot set additional key frames?

So how is it supposed to work? with or without additional keyframes?

Hi Trevor,
Thx for yr reply. As you know, noise reduction means detail reduction. Although there is sharpening available to partly ompensate for the loss of detail, it is always better to not have to denoise. A friendd asked me for a keyed denoise because he has a video taken in auto mode, in a relative dark area, and when he slowly pans to a still darker area, the gain goes up, and the video gets real noisy. A gradual (keyed) denoise would solve this problem by only denoising, and loosing imag quality in the darkest areas where the noise gets too strong.

Can you cut the video and then only denoise the cut video dark parts? Al

I agree that the Denoise filter appears to have some issues, however using the New Blue Noise Reduction filter from Essentials Package II does allow adding as many keyframes as needed along the timeline and subtle changes can be seen as the scrubber passes through each keyframe.

Hi Robert

I don’t see that filter, is it provided with Video Studio or did you purchase from New Blue?

Hi Trevor,

I own New Blue Essentials Packages 1-6, the Noise Reduction Filter is part of package 2. VSX7 only includes the Picture in Picture filter from package 2.

As New Blue have only just released 64 bit versions of these packages, I took the opportunity of uninstalling VSX7 32 bit and installing VSX7 64 bit, just so that I could install the 64 bit New Blue versions and am very happy with the results, some filters seem to put tremendous strain on the CPU when rendering, which are not apparent with my other 64 bit NLEs but they all function correctly.

Essentials packages 1-7, are no longer available, (although they are providing 64 bit versions for Corel VSX7 for existing customers). They have completely changed their marketing strategies, the Noise Reduction filter is now included in Essentials 3 Ultimate Package, you could download the trial to test if you wanted.
