What do these filters do???
I am a newbie to programs like VideoStudio and am very impressed with the power of its filters. However, I do not know what many of them are supposed to do (and the User Guide is no help). I'd appreciate if someone can provide a link to descriptions of the filters that come with VideoStudio Pro X7!

Re: What do these filters do???
They do give a limited description and thumbnail but why not try them on a bit of your video? You can always cancel them if you do not like what you see. As for Boris Grafitti etc. there are a number of tutorials which give some idea. YouTube is a good source.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: What do these filters do???
I haven't found the limited descriptions of video filters; are they hiding in the latest X7 version of the program?
Nevertheless, I have figured out nearly all the filters with some experimentation, with one or two exceptions.... How does AutoLevel differ from AutoExposure?

Re: What do these filters do???
Each and every filter thumbnail is animated and therefore gives a good indication of what that filter does
Each filter thumbnail has a name which gives a very strong indication of what the filter does.
Read the user guide from page 121 onwards which will help you apply and customise filters.
but as Terfyn has said the very best way to find out how any filter works is to put a piece of video in your timeline and apply a filter to it and see what happens - self tuition through experimentation is by far the best way to learn
once you have experimented you can either just delete the clip in your timeline - Does NOT delete your video clip - or remove the filters before moving on

Re: What do these filters do???
Hi MJS_888
The Auto Exposure as the name suggests does seem to affect the lighting levels similar to setting the F-stop and Shutter Speed on the camera.
The Auto Levels seems to change the actual colours, affecting the White Balance of the recordings. Whether this raises or reduces the colour temperature may be dependent on the video it is applied to.
A combination of both filters does seem to work well.
What filters you use does depend on the original recordings, I think they are ok to tweak the quality, but if you expect.
All filters will increase the render times, some so long that they are not worth using, I guess that’s personal preference.

I knew what Auto Exposure does but was puzzled by Auto Level; I can't imagine how it decides what the colors should look like!lata wrote: ...The Auto Levels seems to change the actual colours, affecting the White Balance of the recordings. I'm accustomed to using Brightness/Contrast and Hue/Saturation filters. Other software I've used offered little more.
I love VideoStudio's Cropping filter! Is it one of the filters that greatly increases render times?lata wrote: All filters will increase the render times, some so long that they are not worth using, I guess that’s personal preference.

Re: What do these filters do???
A couple of quick tests suggest that the Brightness/Contrast and Hue/Saturation filters do not slow down rendering more than the Color Correction settings. The Cropping filter roughly doubled the rendering time in my test, which is not as bad as I feared. Do some filters slow rendering very much more?

Re: What do these filters do???
Hi
The ColorFast filter render times were raised in an earlier post…..
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... er#p298248
A 6 minute sample taking 2hr 40 min, now that’s slow.

Re: What do these filters do???
Yikes. Since my program is not Ultimate I do not have that filter. I'm sure glad the Cropping filer only doubled the render time!lata wrote:Hi
