Hi again.
I recently went from having a desktop pc to a laptop and I need to upload video from mini dv tapes to it. I used to do it via a firewire port if my memory is correct. Is there anyway to get them on to my laptop which does not have a firewire port?
Thanks again for all your help. You have no idea what it has meant to me.
Kind regards,
Mick.

Download them onto your old tower system and transfer using DVD or SD card.
This is a classic reason why tower systems are more flexible. I had mine fitted with a FireWire card just for that purpose. Or you could buy a more up to date camera that uses SD cards. Plus I run two screens, one for the editing and a 16:9 for the preview window.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Mini DV tapes onto my laptop?
Hi Mick
There are some Firewire adapters that can connect to your laptop, provided the laptop has the appropriate terminals. (ExpressCard ports?)
If your camera has Mini USB terminal you could try using that. Older USB was quite slow but maybe the latest will do the job without dropped frames, you can view dropped frames whilst capturing.
Worth a try anyway!
What version of Video Studio are you using?
