VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out

VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
Let's say I'm attempting to take a 60 second video and save it in 10 second increments (6 total files). After I save the first file (seconds 1-10), I go back to the edit screen so I can keep working on the original 60 second video file. In VSP5, I would just hit the Undo button and could get all the way back to the original 60 second video I loaded for editing. But since I've upgraded to VSP7, after I save that first 10 second video and go back to the edit screen, the undo button is grayed out. I checked all my setting in VSP5 vs. VSP7 and they identical. Any thoughts as to why this may be happening? Thanks.

In Preferences/General how many Undo Levels do you have checked, you can select up to 99 undo levels
Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
I have 99 selected. But even if I had only 1 selected it wouldn't matter. When I go back to the edit screen after saving the video clip, the undo button is grayed out and not even an option. I have been using VSP5 for years and never had this issue before. My settings in VSP7 since I upgraded are exactly the same as I had them in VSP5.RobertOZ wrote:In Preferences/General how many Undo Levels do you have checked, you can select up to 99 undo levels

Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
When you say you are saving something, I assume you mean you are going to File > Save. If so, then that is not saving a video clip as a separate video clip. It is saving a project in which that video clip is an element. And AFAIK you cannot "unsave" a project file like you can individual editing steps.
If you are wanting to 'save' an edited clip as a separate video file, you have to go to Share and then select the output format you want to save it in -- though if you have ticked the box beside 'Show message when inserting first video clip' in Preferences > General, then you can match the properties of the project to those of the clip, and then in Share you can then select "Same as Project Properties", or if not ticked, then at least 'Same As First Clip".

I was unclear. I'm not saving a project, I'm going to capture and outputting a video file and when I go back to the edit screen to continue editing the original video, the undo button is grayed out.

Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
I think what twelvexes is trying to say is that he cannot continue to use the undo button after saving, even though the project is still in the timeline. Provided I "save" or "save as" and then continue in the timeline I can still use the undo button, wouldn't that in reality be the same as the Auto Save functionKen Berry wrote:When you say you are saving something, I assume you mean you are going to File > Save. Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
That is correct. What's frustrating is that I could continually share and export files and go back to the original video file in the edit screen, hit undo to go back as far as I needed to, and still manipulate the file in x5 with no issues.RobertOZ wrote:I think what twelvexes is trying to say is that he cannot continue to use the undo button after saving, even though the project is still in the timeline.

Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
That confuses me, how do you do that?twelvexes wrote:I was unclear. I'm not saving a project, I'm going to capture and outputting a video file and when I go back to the edit screen to continue editing the original video, the undo button is grayed out.
OK
When we use File – “Save As” we give the project a new name, the new project shows in the timeline replacing the original project. For me the undo options were available.
If you take the 60 second clip and cut into 10 second segments, select clip – File Save Trimmed Video, would render that clip to a new video file, the Undo would be still active.
Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
After I edit the original video file in the edit screen. I go to the share screen and export the edited video as it's own video file. I then go back to the edit screen where the original video file I was editing is still in the timeline, but the undo button is grayed out. Therefore, if i want to continue working on the original video file, I cannot undo the last few steps I just performed on this file. I need to reload it completely again. This did not happen before I upgraded to x7 from x5.

Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
Hi
Thanks for the further info.
I added the first sample to the timeline
Cut the clip in the middle and deleted the first section
Share – Same as First video Clip – rendered the project to a new video file.
Edit tab – returns to timeline - Undo is available and I can select three times.
Restore the deleted section
Repair the cut
Remove the clip.
Undo seems to work for me
Can you complete the above?
OK
From your first post.............
You have a 60 second clip
Cut the clip at 10 second intervals giving you 6 clips.
Select the first clip and choose File – Save trimmed video, will save to the working folder.
Repeat for the other 5 clips

Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
When I go to the Share screen and check the box next to Same as Project Settings, in the drop down box Same as First Video Clip is grayed out and not an option. So I left the box unchecked and exported the video as a WMV file. Then went back to the Edit screen and undo is not available.

Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
Hi
using a wmv also works for me, the share type should not affect Undo.
No idea why your program does not retain the undo.
I assume you have Undo selected from Preferences (F6) otherwise it would not work at all?

Hi
Try running the program as Administrator.
Right click the desktop icon and choose Run as Admin
Have you tried re-installing the program?

Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
yes i do.
i still have x5 installed on my computer. i believe during the x7 install it said something about deleting previous versions of VSP? could this have anything at all to do with it? i'm afraid to delete x5 because i know that still works well for me while i'm having issues with x7.

Re: VSP7 Undo Button Grayed Out
Running as Administrator didn't solve it.
