convert mts file for Macintosh
Hi all. I took video with my Canon HFR300 and the result is some great hi-def video with the .mts extension. My sister-in-law wants to edit the video herself (since it was her child's christening) and she uses a Mac. I emailed her a short .mts video file just as a test and she cannot open it on her Mac. Can anyone suggest a way for me to convert these videos (I use VSP 6) and maintain the high quality that she can use in whatever editing program she is using on her Mac. I have quicktime on my PC and was able to create a DV conversion that ended up with an .AVI extension that quicktime DID play, but the quality was not very good. Thanks for any advice as I am not familiar w/Mac at all.

Mac is a pain,
Strange you ask PC guys what to give him.
If Mac doesn't take MTS's than convert them to MP4's using same profile as your originals.

Re: convert mts file for Macintosh
AVCHD files for a Mac are usually wrapped in the .mov (Quicktime) extension. In fact, ironically, quite a few cameras these days are producing their AVCHD footage as .mov files, I guess so they can be played in both Macs and PCs...
But there are essentially two ways of going about this for a Mac. The easiest ways is not to convert the mts files at all, but get your sister-in-law to install the free VLC Player for Mac on her computer. It will then play the .mts/.m2ts files directly (and just about anything else as well!! A great free player...): http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
The other way is to convert the mts to .mov (with exactly the same quality and properties). I have Quicktime Pro and it will do the job, but costs money. I am 99% sure the free version of QT will NOT do it. A freeware converter can be found at http://www.iskysoft.com/topic-mts/play- ... n-mac.html

MTS can be played by VLC, don't need any expensive converter at all.
