Problem with Digital Noise Removal in Adjust Workspace

Post by mp1 »

Hi,

Everytime I try to change settings with "Digital Noise Removal" in the Adjust workspace, then the change will be reverted immediately.
I am new to Paint Shop Pro, what I am doing wrong?

I can see the progress in the status bar and for a short time the changes on the picture, although the change will be immediately reverted.
Other settings will work.

Any idea?

Thanks,

Martin

By "immediately" do you mean that if you go to another adjustment and come back the numbers have changed to the starting point? When I make a change, the numbers are what I changed to until I make another adjustment, such as Brightness. Then, when I go back to DNR the numbers have reverted.

Unfortunately, this is the way Adjust has been set up to work. I hate this aspect because it does not allow me to go back to where I started and for this reason I NEVER use Adjust on my photo and use Edit instead. There, you can use History to undo almost anything you have done. Also, if you use layers you can undo a bunch of stuff by deleting a layer.

Thanks for your reply ...

No, the preview image will be changed only for a second - after the progress is finished, the preview picture will be reverted to the original image.
Although the "numbers" from the DNR are still changed to the my settings.

I don't know why, but the DNR in the edit mode is very very slow and I always have problem with that; preview window will not always be changed? have to wait about 15 seconds .. a little bit a strange behaviour

Which version of PSP are you using.
I am having no problems running X4 on an XP windows system.
IN Edit mode
One Step Noise removal takes less than 2 seconds.
Digital Noise Removal takes less than 3 seconds.
I tested using Factory default preset and with a couple of sample areas.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

The new dialog boxes in X7 seem slower than the old style. It seems to take a second or two waiting if you have finished your input, then a second or two to update the preview. However, I have not seen a delay of 15 seconds. I compared DNR for X6 and X7 and the results are very similar. I did not pay much attention to the time it took with X6 but it felt comparable.

My tests have extended and there is another factor contributing to the time and that is the size of the image. My previous figures were on XP with a 3000 x 2000 pixel image
Have tested them out on a larger image:
XP X7 32 bit 5616 x 3744 oixel image :
Onestep Noise removal 6 sec
Digital Noise Removal 8 sec.

Win7 Laptop 32 bit 5616 x 3744 pixels
Onestep 8 sec
DNR 8 sec

64 bit version same times as 32 bit.

But noticed a problem with laptops and DNR. Initially you can see all the controls but after rendering the image area the control area becomes a little larger so I cannot access the OK button at the bottom.

Corel has done it again, changed something that was working and stuffed up the display in this case.

As well at the right I can only see a Camera Preset tick box and no other controls. If I drag the cursor over the control area in a painting like motion some more controls become visible including the OK Button.

This occurred when I had the image in windowed mode and at zoomed out so I could see all the image on the workspace. It behaved normally when I zoomed in on the original image so that I could only see part of it before I did Adjust > DNR.

Corel is aware of this problem and it will be corrected in SP1. I believe it may be related to the display size used in Windows. I have Control Panel/Appearance and Personalization/Display set to Medium or 125% and have seen a number of errors. There are a number of displays in PSP that have difficulty with display other than 100% and many have been corrected already in PSP6 and PSP7.
