PSP X3 Activation Limit

I just installed my PSP X3 on my new computer. When I go to activate it I get the "Sorry, the serial number you are using has already been submitted the maximum number of times for Activation" message. Based on searching here and other places the only way to rectify this is PAY to get Priority Support to raise the activation limits. I really don't think that I need to pay to install software that I've already paid for. Is there any way around this?

For the record, I've purchased several versions of PSP over the years beginning with (I think) 7. I haven't purchased anything above X3 because X3 does what I need and I'm used to it. I honestly like PSP but if the only way to use something that I've already paid for is to pay again I'll just switch to a product from a different company.
