i try to convert a movie(45 GB) to mpeg2 with VS X7 but my laptop shuffers and collapse. i wonder if i can save the conversion progress and restart another time when the machine is cooler.can i do that ?

I think once you start the process it cannot be paused and restarted after a computer restart.
If you are having heat problems prop the laptop up on a stand or place a thick book slightly under each corner.
Then run a fan from behind the monitor to blow air under the unit.
If the laptops internal fan output is at the rear do not blow air directly into it but rather from the left or right side.
Then start your conversion. Also is the file to be converted on the HDD or on an external device?
Try placing it on the HDD if you are accessing an external drive.
