The bouncy, flickering problem

Post by btesnar »

I have read several posts regarding this issue that I am having. However, I'm not sure there is a general consensus of what this issue is and how to solve it (or could it just be a deficiency within VS). Does anyone know how to solve the flickering problem? When I create movies, I get a wierd flickering or bouncing within some of the video clips. For example, the countdown .avi that comes with VS (5-4-3-2-1) flickers when I put it in my projects. Whats wierd is that this happens when I create a video file or an iso file which I then burn to DVD and play on the tv. Either method, the clip seems to flicker or bounce. I would have guessed this would have something to do with the television. But since it does this with a data file (mpeg-2), than I'm thinking this is a problem with VS. Any idea on this one?

At the risk of being rude, I ask: Do you know what you are doing? There's really no way to tell from your post that you are following the normal, recommended procedures etc etc -- all said many times before.

Give us a little more description of your procedure.

I wouldn't care if the countdown .AVI bounced, if all my home videos were stable. So it must be more than just that.

What country are you in? The sample file properties may not match your local TV standard, making a conversion and frame interpolation necessary.

Ben,
IMHO, the great majority of problems that new users experience are caused by improper procedure when using Video Studio.

I recommend that you carefully follow the procedure that is described in the top sticky post on this forum ( http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=27 ). This will help you avoid bugs and manage the video properties that are crucial in avoiding the kind of problems that you are experiencing.

Hi Ben

I have just viewed the countdown Avi (V07) from Vs 9 ( and indeed it does flicker.)

It looks as though the Avi has had the ‘Old Film’ filter applied to it.

If anyone has version 7 (V12 avi) is very very much of a muchness. With the exception that it does not flicker.

The VS 7 V12 is nearly 700 Kb and uses a different compression, but views ok on my pc
If you wish I will e-mail the file to you.

All the Best
Trevor
