PSP X7 does not savePeople and Places tags
I have done everything correctly according to Corel, but PSP X7 does not save the Places or People tags I create. Creating them is fine. That works. They then show up in the appropriate drop-down list in the Collections list in the Manage tab. However, when I close PSP and re-open it, the Places and People tags are gone. Regular tags work fine, but it is annoying that the People and Places tags disappear when PSP is closed.

As your PSPX7 is new you can contact Corel about this matter.

Re: PSP X7 does not savePeople and Places tags
I'm not sure what your expectations are or where you expect the tags to appear. I don't use People and Places tags regularly but have tested them since they were first introduced. I just checked again and what I entered remains after closing and opening a session.rkeesecker wrote:I have done everything correctly according to Corel, but PSP X7 does not save the Places or People tags I create. In the attachment, the thumbs that contain location information are identified with a symbol in the bottom right like the one that is circled. If you select this thumb and then select Places in the Information palette, the location shows. My beef with this part of the process is that PSP does not retain the last zoom used and it is most often necessary to adjust the zoom to figure out the location.
Regarding People, the two thumbs that are checked have tagged faces. There is no indication on the thumb that the faces had been tagged. If the General tab is selected in the Information palette, the tags portion lists only what had been entered in "Tags" - I enter mine in ASP and this get transferred into PSP. The face tags do not show up here.
However, if you select the People tab in the Information palette, when you select a thumb that had been tagged the names show up. Then, if you change from thumbnail view to Preview and hover over the image in Preview, a box appears over a face with the name of the person. Check if this is how it works for you. I have also found that if you identify a face in a photo in one directory and there is a duplicate in another directory, the face will be recognised only in the directory where it was tagged (unless the copy was made after tagging, I assume).
My complaint with the People, Places and perhaps other instances is that the location of the file in the system is not shown if you select a person or place in Navigation and the images connected with that person or place pop up. If I select an image from such a selection of thumbs, I would like to see the source directory show up somewhere so I can find the image easily.

The new product warranty is 30 days and I purchased PSPX7 upgrade on Aug 21. I don't have the Support Code to which Corel refers on the support page, so I am unable to submit a technical support inquiry.trueblue wrote:As your PSPX7 is new you can contact Corel about this matter.

Re: PSP X7 does not savePeople and Places tags
Thanks very much, MarkZ for working on your reply on my behalf. Man, your explanation on using these tags is terrifying. I really like PSP, but the tagging process is way too confusing. Uhhh ... my expectation is that when I create People tags manually, they will be there in the Collections list when I open the program. You have confirmed for me that the only tag system I am going to use is the generic Tags list. I will stick with PSP for the time being because all the metadata showing up with each photo is great. On the other hand, I may download a trial of Lightroom and/or Photoshop Elements and see how they work at photo management. I've used PE before and the tagging was MUCH more user-friendly. For now I'll ignore the People and Places tags in PSP. Re the latter, it's hard to ignore because I've learned it does some automatic tagging based on the photo metadata. There are all sorts of funky location tags which are close but no cigar. Lots of useless rubble. I have no interest in searching for photos supposedly taken at a neighbor's home two doors down (i.e. a photo taken in my home). Maybe I can turn off automatic location tagging? I think our brains are going to absorb so many 1's and O's so fast that people are going to start expiring from exploding brains.
Thanks again for your prompt response. Much appreciated.

rkeesecker:
If tagging is important for you, I suggest you try AfterShot Pro as well. I have been shooting in RAW for a few years and that led me to ASP. It is for PSP what Lightroom is for PE. A feature of ASP that I like very much is its very extensive metadata and keyword search capabilities. To do that it is necessary to create catalogs but that process is quite simple. The other day I was looking for noisy photos to check a denoise tool and within seconds I had all the photos I had taken at ISO of 3200 and higher in the last few years. The price is right so I think it is worth looking at.

Re: PSP X7 does not savePeople and Places tags
Thanks very much MarkZ! I have AfterShot Pro and will load it right now to check out its photo management capability. I didn't even think about it. I can understand your comparison to Lightroom. Right under my nose but it didn't occur to me. I'll post after I try it. Thanks again for your quick replies. I've used Corel (Ulead) products for years and I see that they are trying to get better with their customer support, which a few years ago was really, really bad. Improvements are evident to me. Corel products are such high value products. What makes me curious is the lack of results in Google when searching for Corel product issues. It's almost as if they have some double-secret program to prevent problem searches from showing up in Google search.
