Using VideostudioX7. Would like to Fade the audio on the video clip, not background music. I would like the audio to go from no audio and gradually increase to normal level. Able to get into the Sound Mixer. But not able to get the beginning of the audio to adjut to no sound.
Did search help files, only found back ground fade in out help.
Thanks

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
There are a few ways in which this can be achieved,
The easiest way is to highlight the clip in the time line, then select the blue Options tab, bottom right hand side of the library, then under the video tab select the fade in/fade out icons, they will brighten when selected. To adjust the length of the fade in/out, select the sound mixer, which then shows the waveform, and adjust the fade in time by dragging the fade point along the timeline

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
Thanks for the reply. I accomplished your recommendation prior to posting. I cannot seem to get the audio of the video change low enough using the audio editing "nodes" ( hope this is the correct term).
I will give it another try.
Thanks

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
Thanks for the quick reply. Before posting I was able to find and try your suggestions.
When I select the Audio Mixer Option, I am unable to move the sound below -36.0 . I would like no audio with the audio fading in gradually.
When I enter the Attibute Menu, I find the fade in but cannot select the duration of no sound to sound.
Years ago I used Adobe Premiere. Premiere had an option in the audio track to drag the "volume slide" to fade in and fade out. I can see a little similarity with videostudio, but cannot get the desired effect of no audio to gradually audio effect.
Am I making sense?
Thanks all for the help.

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
You can set the duration of the fade in (and fade out) in "Preferences >> Edit" where you can set the default to anything between 1 and 999 seconds which will then be applied to fades added after changing that setting.
Having done that you can then change to 'sound Mixer' mode and adjust the nodes manually to get the exact effect you want - look in the user manual for "Rubber banding"
The initial node can sometimes be a bit tricky to grab but expand the timeline fully and select the video clip - now move the mouse cursor up and down slowly in the orange end bar until it changes to a little hand - the instant it does that left click and hold while you drag downwards - this should ensure the first node is at zero.
you can now move along the video track and slide any nodes right or left using the same procedure until the duration is too your liking.
You can profile the fade in (or out) by adding extra nodes and setting their vertical and horizontal positions to achieve the effect you want
to add a node hover your mouse cursor over the volume line and when a small black arrow appears left click to add a node.
for what it's worth I rarely use the slider in the sound mixer I prefer to rubber band manually.

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
Hi
You do not need to use the Sound Mixer to set Fade in or fade out.
First go to F6 preferences – edit and set the audio fade durations higher than 1 second try to 4 seconds
Back to the timeline:-
1 / Double click the clip to open the options panel below the library.
Adjacent to the digital clock are some volume controls
100% will change the overall level
The fade ramps to the right will set a Fade-in and Fade –out.
2 / From the Sound Mixer choose the attributes tab for similar options
Otherwise
3 / Right click the clip in the timeline and choose Fade-In

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
Thanks everyone for the help.
I have done everthing and I still cannot get the audio to go from no audio to audio.
Able to use the rubber band nodes, ( could not find the explanation in the manual, I think my premiere experienced helped with this.)
Able to select nodes on time line. I cannot get first node to go below -36.
I will keep trying.
Thanks again.

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
I uploaded a screen shot of the timeline. notice the left node is not completely to the "bottom" of the timeline. Since I want the audio to be zero I assume the first node should be at the bottom edge.
thanks again

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
Why are you assuming that you need to go below -36 what do you consider zero volume to be, when you play the video with all the sound set to -36 can you actually hear anything , not only can I not physically hear anything but my sound level meters stay firmly at zero.
The nodes when rubber banding do not go to the very bottom of the track for zero sound they stay just above the sound waveform so even zero is about 1/3 up the video track hieght
if you want no sound have you tried muting the sound in the video

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
Hi
Rubber Banding as far as I know does not reduce to zero, cannot go below -36 Db
You have to use the fade in options to do that.
Right click one of your clips and choose Fade-In
Remember to first set the Audio Fade in duration via F6 Edit tab.
Post Updated...Apologies I had thought the Fade In options actually started at zero,

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
The start of the fade in as applied by right clicking and choosing 'fade in' is exactly the same as choosing 0.00 from the digital volume selector OR by setting -36 in the sound mixer - in all cases the lowest sound level set is identical - that is however you do it you get -36.
can you actually hear sound from your speakers when you set that level Apro503 ?

Hi Brian
I had always thought that the fade started at zero, at least that’s what I thought, I was aware of the limitations of the Sound Mixer to -36
Maybe getting mixed up with the 100% option that does reduce to 0% (mute)

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
No Trevor - you get exactly the same sound level -36db is exactly the same as the digital 0.00 is exactly the same as the fade in/out zero
but I cannot hear any sound from my speakers at that level and my sound level meters stay at zero - I am at a loss to understand what Apro503 is looking for

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
Hi Brian
Well I can hear a background low sound when setting -36, i think would be more noticeable with high volume clips.
Using the 100% option set to 0% does not have any sound at all
I normally use head phones but can still hear sounds at the minimum SM setting
I have attached a sound test VSP for X7, I can hear sound on the first part of the second clip.

Re: Fading Audio on video clip
Yes I can hear sound when the node is set to -36, hence i figured the rubberband had to go to bottom of timeline.
