Hello all,
I have Corel Video Studio 2010 - purchased primarily to make small DVD of photos & videos taken while on holidays that can view on TV.
I have been able to create a project with my selected photos & videos (which have been trimmed as I want) and on preview all works fine. The problem occurs when I go to output & either try to save to video file or burn to disk - the program just hangs with the dots going round & round. My selected video is for a total time of 30 mins - but I have even done a smaller sub-set version of 3 mins & I still cannot get to save. I am not particularly tech-savvy so any simple advice would be appreciated.....
Kind regards, Jen.

Re: Having trouble saving to Video File or Burn to Disk
I am not sure that many people here use VideoStudio 2010 - almost every one here uses the full price VideoStudio Pro.
From what I remember of VS 2010 it was some sort of cut down version supplied in a combination package - maybe someone knows but the first thing anyone will want to know is the properties of the videos and pictures in your project.
Can you right click over a video in your timeline and choose 'properties' - then take a screen shot of the properties box and post it up here - then do the same with the pictures. One of the things which can cause problems in VideoStudio is EXIF data embedded in the photos - try resaving them in some sort of photo editor to strip out the data.

Re: Having trouble saving to Video File or Burn to Disk
Thanks for your speedy reply Brian
.
I have tried right clicking on both photos & video in the timeline as you suggested - but I don't get any option for properties - in fact nothing happens when I right click on photos or video in the timeline. When I right click in the media section I only get rotate eight, rotate left or remove as the 3 options.
Any other suggestions??
Kind regards
Jenni

In that case it sounds as though VideoStudio 2010 is much different to VideoStudio Pro - not even the same basics.
Unless we have a VideoStudio 2010 user among our members I can't really help.
You could download the free 30 day trial of VideoStudio Pro X7 to re-do your project and see if that has a problem burning a DVD - but of course if you have already spent money on 2010 you may not wish to spend more on another programme.

Re: Having trouble saving to Video File or Burn to Disk
I'm afraid that when Video Studio 2010 was released it was regarded as a joke by most of us. It seemed Corel agreed since they had released Video Studio X3 with the VS 2010 burning module, instead of the old tried and tested one. Just about everyone, me included, had trouble with it. So Corel in their wisdom made a cut-down version of another of their programs -- Movie Studio 7 -- available free for authoring instead of the 2010 burning module. There is a whole separate forum for that cut-down program (called Movie Studio 7SE) which you can find here: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewforum.php?f=80 But my basic point is that it uses the old tried and true burning method, not the silly new method which was used in VS 2010 and never used again... I don't know but you might even find a link for a download of MF 7 SE in that forum.
But I am afraid I have to add that regardless of the expense, you will really need to consider just throwing out VS 2010 and buying a more reliable program if you intend to keep producing videos...

Re: Having trouble saving to Video File or Burn to Disk
Thanks for your replies.
It's very disappointing that I have purchased software for a specific purpose & now I find out that what it said it would do - it doesn't & more to the point there are known issues with it. It's almost criminal!!!
I suppose my question now is I want to be sure BEFORE I spend good money on yet another software package that I am not going to encounter any issues. So are there any known issues with this VideoStudio Pro X7 that I need to be aware of - does it work on windows 8 - and can I do basic DVDs of pictures (JPEG) & video footage (MPEG) accompanied by my music (.M4A) files?
Appreciate your feedback....

Re: Having trouble saving to Video File or Burn to Disk
Yes, it does all that you require... though so do earlier versions, after the 2010 version, so I have to be honest and say that if you see another cheaper earlier version, you could try that. But I suggest you download the free trial version of X7 and try that out first for its 30 days and see if it works for you.

Re: Having trouble saving to Video File or Burn to Disk
Thanks Ken - I took the punt based on what you had said in an earlier post & have already downloaded Pro X7 - I have successfully created a DVD (with the same content I was trying with the earlier version) with minimal fuss & effort - so thanks very much for your responses and advice.
I also found the tutorials very helpful & simple to understand....it's nice when things work
Kind regards
Jen
