Hello. I am also having the same problem (using VideoStudio9). I did a search and found this topic, so I might as well save a thread. I am using an S-Video cable, trying to capture from a standard Sony camcorder connected to my computer via DVC 80 USB, and pretty sure it's NTSC.
At first, I couldn't get sound OR picture, so all I got was just a black screen when I pressed capture. But I figured out I had to re-install my drivers and such, so I did that, and now I get sound, but no picture still and the sound is cut short, so it's not the entire recording, just the first few seconds. When I press play on my camcorder, I can see the picture in VideoStudio, but as soon as I press capture, the picture goes black and it just records the sound. I'm new to video editing, so any help is greatly appreciated.
One more thing, while using this program, I get about 30 green arrows in my taskbar that are labeled DirectVobSub. Is this normal and why is it doing that?
Thanks!

This is a little confusingJoOWiTHaU wrote: I am using an S-Video cable, trying to capture from a standard Sony camcorder connected to my computer via USB, pretty sure it's NTSC.
Thanks!
Using Svideo to capture, you need an audio line (RCA mini-jack, preferably a stereo jack) connected from the line out of your Sony camcorder to the line-in on your computer's sound card. You can also use the Composite RCA, which are the red, white and yellow to capture video. The quality will not be as good as Svideo though.( Red and white are audio, yellow is video).

Sorry for the confusion. One end of the S-Video cable is plugged into the camcorder, the other end is plugged into a little device, and that device is plugged into a USB port on my computer. The device also has inputs for L-Audio In, R-Audio In, and Video In (not using Video-In because I have S-Video). So yes, I'm using the composite RCA minus the Video In.

No, all those green arrows are not normal. DirectVobSub is a DirectShow filter for displaying subtitles, and this program may well be the cause of your problems.
If you don't know what this program is or how it got on your system, you probably installed one of the many codec packs that are floating around the 'net. For some reason people think that the more codecs one has installed, the better. Not so. More likely than not, this will screw something up somewhere, and undoing the damage is usually time-consuming and difficult.
Start by selecting Start -> Run, and enter regsvr32 /u vobsub.dll as the program to run. You will hopefully see a dialog saying that the DLL was successfully unregistered. If so, try playing a video. If it didn't unregister, you may have to restart your computer, and execute the same command before opening any file that might cause DirectVobSub to load.

Yikes, no more codecs for me. I restarted and did what you said and I got this message:
"vobsub.dll was loaded, but the DllUnregisterServer entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered."
I hope this isn't the end of the world. Is there another way to remove the vobsub problem? Thanks for the help, I would've never known to do that.

Well, I figured it out thanks to your help. I just uninstalled the entire codec pack (Ace Mega Codecs Pack) which included vobsub and sure enough, the picture works now and I just have to figure out a few minor kinks like why the playback plays faster than it's supposed to... the playback speed is normal... how about capture frame rate?
Thanks again for the help!

If the video that is giving you problems was captured while the codec pack was installed, I would try recapturing the video if possible, or just capture something else just to see if the problem persists.
Capture a few minutes of video, and play it back using Windows Media Player or some other program to see if the audio and video drift out of sync.
