Flash Player affecting Photo Album 6

Post by cbweisbrot »

Hello, I am new to this forum and may be in the wrong section. If so, I apologize.
I have a 2006 Dell desktop Media edition with Windows XP. It came with trial version of Corel Photo Album 6 which is now not supported by Corel, but it is user-friendly and does the simple tasks I want done.
At the end of the trial period I purchased a key to continue using the program.
At some point several years ago, I could not access the "Create" segment in PA6. An email to Corel said there was a known issue with Adobe Flash. They suggested I remove the most current version of Flash and download an older version. I did this and have no further issues.
However, in order to see videos on Facebook, I need to update to the latest version of Flash Player.
I am extremely hesitant to do this for fear it will adversely affect my PA6 capabilities again. Furthermore, if I do download the newest version of Flash Player and it does hurt PA6, I cannot remove the new Flash and replace it with the older version I am currently using because it is too old and no longer available since 2011.
Please tell me if it will be safe to download Flash Player v15 WITHOUT causing any issues with the now unsupported PA6.
Any input would be appreciated.

This is a problem that many XP users and those using older software will experience.
One solution is to have two computers, perhaps a laptop for your facebook and videos. This is costly in $.
The other is to make clones of your XP system. This copies the current syetem and all programs and files onto another suitable internal hard drive which can be stored or disconnected. Then have an updated system for your videos etc. This also costs $ but about 1/5 of the laptop costs.

Currently I have 3 internal hard drives on my desktop computer. One system hard drive runs XP and all its programs and compatibility. The other system hard drive runs Windows 7 and updated programs. The third is a Data drive shared by both. I pull the plug on whichever system Drive I don't want to run and make sure the other is connected.

I have also cloned each of the System Drives at least twice and stored separately elswhere, but then I am paranoid about data loss.
It means that given a catastrophic System drive failure I can have that drive replaced and running within about 5 minutes. It is a bit like a System Restore so only has the updated programs to the last clone session.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Hello Paul,
I am fairly proficient in playing with my computer, but your suggestion is beyond my meager capabilities!
I do have an internal 2nd drive which is supposed to be a back up, but unless I bought Norton Ghost (which I did not), it is not used for anything. As far as I know, it is empty except for a Norton Ghost file folder which contains C Drive 001.v2i and another .sv2i file, neither of which can be opened.
I also have an external backup which seems to be working just fine although I have never had to retrieve anything in the 5 years I have had it.
Your idea is intriguing. What would I have to do to get whatever I need to have Facebook ONLY on the 2nd drive? I presume I would need XP, and Firefox (I cannot use IE on FB, it keeps hanging and cutting out - Firefox is INFINITELY better).
Do I need to clone XP, put in Firefox and downlaod Facebook and everything it needs to run?
If I choose to go that route, would I just go to My Computer, click on Drive D and then access Facebook that way?
Thanks for your reply
