Edit Console Available for VideoStudio?
Is there a editing console (like LightWorks has) that will work with VideoStudio?

I kept getting errors and the image did not show. It is just a picture of a LightWorks controller.BrianCee wrote:Something wrong with your link there Rich - no matter how I try to open it all it does is open my Windows file explorer'

'save link as' seemed to work - got me the image below
but the bottom line is that I have never seen or heard of anything like that for specifically for VideoStudio - but since it presumably just duplicates some of the keyboard short cuts there may be something out there that may work

Re: Edit Console Available for VideoStudio?
Despite its initial 'open source' aspirations, Lightworks has evolved into a rather expensive bit of kit, and is increasingly used at the professional/commercial cinema end of the spectrum. I used several updates of it when it was still in beta format, but would not even consider paying what they are now asking for it. As such, though, it has a lot more studio-type add-ons such as that control unit. A program like VS at the $100 end of the scale simply would not attract the sort of attention that would make the effort of developing such hardware worthwhile IMHO.
The only thing I have ever found which adds some hardware utility to programs such as VS (and a number of others) was a circular mouse called Orbita which offered a few extra controls, and made scrolling/scrubbing in particular much more of a breeze... But it certainly never offered the range of functions offered by the Lightworks controller. And I don't even know if the Orbita is still available. I bought it about 6 years ago and have not seen any references to it since then in the computer magazines to which I subscribe...
But as Brian suggested, someone else might have found other hardware which works with VS. If so, I would be interested to hear about it, being a bit of a new hardware geek... (I was an early adopter of LEAP Motion, for instance, though am currently having difficulty even getting that to work in its latest updated version 2.0...)

The only thing I have seen was the Kensington Expert Mouse. It has a track ball, a scroll ring, and four programmable buttons which would be better than nothing. However I found out in their forums that the buttons are no longer programmable so much for that.Ken Berry wrote:Despite its initial 'open source' aspirations, Lightworks has evolved into a rather expensive bit of kit, and is increasingly used at the professional/commercial cinema end of the spectrum. Any ideas would be appreciated. I have a great deal of work to do in the next few months and I am trying to get setup as efficiently as possible.

Re: Edit Console Available for VideoStudio?
Well most of us have never experienced any problems or work related strains by using a combination of mouse and keyboard - I did a Google search for "Video Editing Keyboards" and got quite a few hits - but the prices are quite steep - so if you do find something that can be programmed to work with VideoStudio be prepared to pay
This one mentions that it can be programmed to work with VideoStudio

Re: Edit Console Available for VideoStudio?
You may be right Brian, you really only need something like this when you are doing truckloads of editing which is what I am looking at in the near future. The LightWorks controller really makes a huge difference when you are extracting clips or doing other things that are repetitive. My current company doesn't have a commercial LightWorks license and I would hate to spend that kind of money anyway.BrianCee wrote:Well most of us have never experienced any problems or work related strains by using a combination of mouse and keyboard - perhaps the reason you are having problems finding something is that there is no demand for it - if enough people wanted it the market would be flooded with them.

I looked at it and it should do the trick however on the website I didn't see anything about working with videostudio.BrianCee wrote:Well most of us have never experienced any problems or work related strains by using a combination of mouse and keyboard - I did a Google search for "Video Editing Keyboards" and got quite a few hits - but the prices are quite steep - so if you do find something that can be programmed to work with VideoStudio be prepared to pay

Re: Edit Console Available for VideoStudio?
I suspect that article -- and indeed, possibly also the keyboard itself -- may be somewhat dated... by at least 10 or 11 years since it talks about about Video Studio 7, not X7, and it also talks about talks with the owners, Ulead!!!
There are no included settings for Ulead VideoStudio 7, though Bella says it's talking to Ulead about supporting upcoming versions.
