Changing export settings - Lowering FPS options

Post by apieplow »

I was wondering how I could go about changing the FPS options for a MP4 template. I am editing low frame rate video (7fps) and when I output at the same resolution as the source video the file size is extremely high. I am thinking that part of the issue is that it is duplicating frames to reach 30fps/29.97/25/23.976. So what I was wanting to do was to be able to specify the frame rate OR change a .ini or .dat file to allow for a lower frame rate.

Anyone run across anything like this or have any experience with this at all?

I have no recent experience dealing with such low frame rates; the lowest I recall dealing with was 9fps back in the old days of super 8 movies and there were no digital editors then. I wouldn't be surprised if VS simply can't produce (render or share) "same as first video" such low frame rates. It appears you have tried "same as first video" and it did not work.

Perhaps you could share here why you want to produce video files with such low frame rates? My current camera can produce 10 frames per second of 16mp photos, and up to 96fps videos; I think the lowest video it produces is 24fps. I can only imagine how poor a 7fps video looks, unless the subject is rather static (not moving much).

Hi

I doubt if Video Studio can handle 7fps, the problem of setting the timeline to 7 fps.

The Make Movie Manager may be able to set an AVI template to 7fps, provided you manually input the details, what Video Studio does when rendering is another matter.

As you say it will duplicate frames to create the video.

There are some free programs that will rip the video into individual images, one for each frame.
Then you can reconstruct the video, but at what frame rate,

Are you able to provide a sample maybe uploading to a sharing site One Drive can do that.

Sorry I should have given a bit more info about why I am wanting to do this. I work for a managed video surveillance company and we edit a lot of surveillance footage. In this industry generally the frame rate is incredibly low due to storage concerns of recording HD footage 24/7. After we have reviewed footage pertaining to an incident we then edit the footage together to show the client what happened. Then we upload it to a website that the client can access to watch what we have created. Since mp4 can play natively in most browsers this works quite well for us. I was hoping though that we might be able to configure Corel to output at the same fps as the source footage so we wouldn't have to take any extra steps, increasing the time we are working on a particular incident. If we were to go to avi at a lower frame rate we would still need be taking an extra step to then convert it to mp4, unless I am missing some kind of automation inside of corel to take care of that.

I thought I saw a few weeks back (really wish I had bookmarked it because I can't remember where it was) someone post about editing a .dat file or a .ini file to allow for different settings inside Corel. Was hoping maybe someone might know something about that, although it sounds pretty dangerous.

Most of our footage is between 5 and 7fps, I have uploaded a sample file to a public folder on my gdrive. https://drive.google.com/a/watchtower-s ... =drive_web

Thank you!

Hi

Thanks for the sample, I was able to edit the video removing frames from the ends, than added a text box.

Share – Same as First Video Clip was available, that surprised me.
The video rendered ok creating another AVI to the same properties as original.

As I say I am surprised that the program can do that.
I was also able to create a new template using Movie Profile Manager –Add option

You learn something every day………

I was able to play the new file using VCL Media Player, also played using Windows Media Player

I have to say the quality is incredibly good considering the frame rate?

So you were able to do it via exporting an AVI? Any luck or ideas on the mp4 side, other than exporting AVI then converting?

Hi

If you convert the video to another format it will add duplicate frames as the frame rate will be increased, I think the quality will be similar but the file size will increase.

Not had time to run those tests.

But if everyone can play the Avi then why bother converting to another format.

Can you test this just to make sure you are able to render to “same as first clip”.
The properties I see are:-

NTSC non-drop frame (30 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 1280 x 800, 5 fps
Frame-based
Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V2
No Audio

Sorry I am not following you on where that "same as first clip" setting is at?

The reasoning for wanting MP4 is just so it would play in a browser natively. I did try the HTML5 settings first (exporting a mp4 and webm at the same time through corel) but abandoned that when I was unable to make it so the webm had the same quality as the mp4 it created.

Hi

I have just tried rendering to these settings which should create a good quality video, but the quality is poor, with jagged lines, I would suspect any Mpeg4 template will be poor.

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 5000 Kbps
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps

Dinner Time...........

Hi

Go to Share---at the top (above AVI) is a panel Same as Project Properties --place a tick in the left box, drop down for Same as First Video.

That will use the properties of your video file, Shows in the Properties Panel, convert time will be relatively fast as you are rendering like for like.
as I said the quality is very good.
