I've recorded DV footage on a Sony camera DCR-HC42E PAL in 16:9 - wide select.
I'm using Videostudio Pro X3 - all old technology I know. If I start a Project in 16:9 and burn a DVD, it doesn't play properly on the widescreen TV. Screen not full - gaps on side - and vertical distortion. Is there any easy fix? I've tried recording in 4:3 and likewise with the software.

Re: Widescreen TV Videostudio X3
can I first point out that I have added an 'X' in front of your version number - you are using X3 - that is 13 the X being the Roman ten - if you really are using Version 3 that really is old technology - before widescreen TV's even.
Anyrate - in version X3 Corel made a disastrous decision to remove the internal DVD burning module and add a stand alone programme which VideoStudio automatically opens and sends your project to when you choose to create a DVD. Because of that you need to also set all parameters again in the burning programme - check all the settings there just before the actual burn.
In the subsequent version Corel put the standard authoring module back into VideoStudio - where it has remained - even so in the built in programme you still have to check all settings.

Re: Widescreen TV Videostudio X3
Hi Binney-4n
Corel did provide a replacement burn authoring module.
The rubbish one is the 2010 Movie Factory, whilst the new is Movie Factory 7 se, I think that’s the names. Do not use MF 2010.
Once installed you will have the choice to use either module, choose MF7SE
From the program Corel Guide -- If you try running “Check for Updates” make sure Service Pack 1 is installed.
Then run Check for Updates again, should show service Pack 2 the Movie Factory 7SE should be there.
However I do not think that is your problem.
Your comment regarding “Screen not full - gaps on side - and vertical distortion”, suggests an aspect ratio problem.
When you captured the footage we assume you connected via Firewire, then used DV as the capture format. That will capture correctly as recorded by the camera.
If you used DVD then you may have captured to the wrong aspect ratio.?
From the edit timeline, right click one of your clips and select properties, what are they?
Please read this page, also a bit old, but covers a suitable workflow for DV
