Still using X6 not X7

Post by tpgaffney »

X6 works with my Fuji Finepix XP170 .mov HD video, but the video does not work in X7. I have a windows 7 desktop and a new windows 8.1 laptop. I have the same problem with both computers. When the Fuji 1920x 1080, 14692 bitrate files are dropped in to X7 the program freezes. I have tried both 64 and 32 bit versions, with and without Service pack 1. I have upgraded my video drivers and Quicktime player. I have even tried the patch for the Panasonic Lumix video, all to no avail.

I purchased the camera after my free trouble shooting support expired. I have been watching this board for months to see if Corel would offer a fix. I don't expect that board members can offer a fix, but I'm hoping for a little sympathy. Fortunately, X6 works fine. I have been upgrading annually for years, so I think this will be the end of the line with my automatic upgrades, there just seems to be too many problems with X7 and I'm sure Corel has moved on and is working on X8. I'm happy with X6 and will continue using it until it becomes obsolete. Customers should not have to jump through hoops to get programs to work.

Thanks

I have no problems using HD mov clips from my Canon DSLR camera in VS X7. It seems that each camera maker creates their own "format" which often will not work with many video programs. I have used other programs and sometimes have a problem with mov files.

Can you make a short mov clip available to this forum so others can test with VS X7?

There is an article here about a problem wit mov files and Panasonic cameras - no mention of your camera specifically - but the hotfix may work for you

Thanks for the replys.

I did try the Panasonic patch, but still no go.

Here is a link to a 2 sec video from the Fuji camera. Click on the link and it will download the file. After download, add a V to the file type to make it a .MOV

Downloaded your clip and added a V to make it a .mov file, imported into VSX7 plays fine from the library, clip mode and project mode, no freezing, lockups or stalling, using the 32 bit version of VSX7 Ultimate

Same with my setup -- which is on a Win 8.1 64 bit computer. Plays fine both video and audio. I would note, however, that the Properties of the clip show it to be 1280 x 720 and not 1920 x 1080 as you said in your opening post.

Downloaded new clip, as soon as I click open, VSX7 crashes and disappears from the desktop

Yes, I have to agree with RobertOZ. As soon as I tried either to insert it into the library window or into the timeline, VS X7 (Ultimate) just totally closed down instantly. No message or anything else...... and

Yet it played without problems in VLC Player (currently version); Quicktime Pro 7.7.6; and even, to my surprise, WMP and Windows Movie Maker in Win 8.1.

I have a somewhat antiquated (2005) program which is able to convert anything imported so far.

Sadly no longer available, also probably wouldn’t work with win7 onwards.

Anyways here are the file details if they are useful to solve the problem;

File Name: DSCF6060.MOV
Format Name: mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2
Format Long Name: QuickTime/MPEG-4/Motion JPEG 2000 format
File Size: 3.71MB
StartTime: 0.000000
Duration: 00:00:02.002
Bit Rate: 15537kbps

Forwarned is for-armed they say

so I downloaded the file - added the 'V' to make it a .mov - tried to import it to VS - immediate shutdown

Then I used "Format Factory" ( http://format-factory.en.softonic.com/) to convert it - I chose mp4 but there are many other options

put the resulting file into VS X7 on Win 8.1 - played with no problems whatsoever

THEN

in case the change of extension was not acceptable I then used Format Factory to convert the downloaded .mov file to a new .mov file - put the resulting file in VS X7 - plays without any problems.

Sounds like you should try Format Factory - it is free

Thanks for taking a look at the file.

Converting is a lot of trouble for the few benefits that X7 offers. These Fuji videos work fine in X6, so I will continue it.

Hopefully Corel will take notice of this problem and fix it.

Thanks for all of your input.

I have downloaded the trial for X8 and found that it does work with my Fuji video files, so I will upgrade to X8 when the price is right. Thanks for your help.
