How to duplicate a RAW file?
Hi all, new to the forum! My question is after I download my pictures on X6 is there a way to duplicate/copy a raw file so that I have a duplicate for backup other than auto preserve? I generally like to make several copies and process differently. In order to open the file it takes me to RAW editor where there is no way to copy the image. If I try to "save as/or save copy as" on the manage tab it attempts to save but a blank box shows up with a "gear" looking wheel in the middle but appears frozen. Hope this makes sense and I am just missing something simple??? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Re: How to duplicate a RAW file?
You don't need PSP to copy files. You can copy any file in Windows by using right click Copy and then in another folder Rightclick Paste.
You can hold the control key down and drag a copy of a file / folders over to another folder.

Re: How to duplicate a RAW file?
Did you note the instruction was to RIGHT click on the file ?
Re: How to duplicate a RAW file?
Indeed on the right click I just don't understand where to look for the file to right click on. When I go to documents/pictures and right click it takes me to the RAW lab. Sorry if my question seems foolish but I am just not able to grasp this!

Re: How to duplicate a RAW file?
You are starting in Windows Explorer - I use Windows 7 and don't know what that looks like in Windows 8.1. Drill down through User or Libraries/Pictures etc. to the directory and file you want.proline1 wrote:Indeed on the right click I just don't understand where to look for the file to right click on. When I right-click on the file I get a menu starting with "open" and a list of other items - don't select open, go to copy and click on that. Then either right-click anywhere in the window and select paste or Ctrl-V to paste a copy of the file into that same directory.
At this point you should be able to use Navigator and Organizer in PSP to select that image for editing. Use "Save As" after you are finished and click on options to make sure you have the compression you want in the format (jpg or other) that you select. Using Save As allows for copies of an image without affecting the original.

Re: How to duplicate a RAW file?
Windows 8.1 is not much different - open "File Explorer" and browse to the folder containing the images and right click over the file to get all the options
so

Re: How to duplicate a RAW file?
You're talking about file management partially and edit preservation partially.
1) PSP isn't a Digital Asset Management tool. If you want a duplicate of the raw file find it on your computer, right click copy right click paste. That's it.
2) Once you've started editing the file it's not a RAW file anymore. That's why PSP won't save a RAW file. It can't/won't. No image editor that I know of will.
3) If you want to save edits for revisiting later, open the file in PSP, duplicate the background layer and work on the duplicate. If you want multiple versions make multiple duplicate layers. When saving save as a PSPImage file. It won't retain a history of your edits but it will retain the layers, which you can pick from. You can also save as PSPImage if you want to set the file aside for a while and revisit it later. Just keep in mind that it just saves the layers in their current state, and you won't be able to use the History to go back when you reopen the file.
