VideoStudio X6 no audio when converting avis

Post by Roddey_Phipps »

I'm using X6 Ultimate. My client has given me several large avi files, and they play properly in a few different video players... however, VideoStudio X6 cannot seem to rip to DVD, or convert, these files properly. The video looks fine but the audio is missing, no matter what format I try to convert to, same thing with trying to burn them to movie DVD... no sound.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Roddey, and welcome to the forum.

You may not be aware, but .avi is merely a wrapper format. There are over 800 different video formats which call themselves .avi but have widely different properties. So just telling us you have an avi in reality tells us very little. So could you please right click on one of the avi clips in the Video Studio timeline and copy ALL its Properties here, or take a screen grab of the Properties box and upload it here. Then we might be able to come up with suggestions.

I've been seeing this same topic over and over, guys complaining that VideoStudio cant rip the audio out of an avi file, even tho other applications have no problem playing it... and the response is always the same. "Its not VideoStudio's fault".

I found a freeware app, Freemake Video Converter, and it made an excellent conversion of every avi file, to mpg, identical video quality and perfect in-sync audio. Easy to, load in and one click. I wish VideoStudio could do this.

I do not work for Freemake, I just found it, and I'm reporting what I found. Once Freemake converted the files to mpg, I loaded them back into VideoStudio and proceeded to edit.

What I fail to understand is, why can a simple free program like this, do what the mighty VideoStudio cannot?
