Installing NBFX on my new computer

Post by phnxrsngbr »

Hi everyone!

I purchased a new computer and instead of transferring any previous versions of VS onto my new computer, I purchased the newest VS Ultimate 7 and am starting all over. I have a number of NewBlue FX and have been trying to install them into my new VS and they will not appear in my VS files.
I have the free Cartooner, 3D Explosions, and just purchased Light Effects, along with Motion Effects and one transition Art Blends.

The path I've been putting in (as there is none listed to start) is: C:\Program Files\Corel Videostudio Ultimate X7\vfx_plug. Is this an incorrect path? Any idea why they won't show up to use, and what I can do?

Thanks very much for your help!

Hello everyone,

I've checked my paths for VS7 and it seems I put the wrong path in during my installation, for my effects. I thought VFT was transition folder, and VFX was an effect file, but all the transitions are listed in the VFT folder and all the effects are listed in the VFT folder. VFT_plug.

Unfortunately, however, none of the newly installed transitions are in either of these folders. I've checked the entire Ultimate 7 folder and can't find "car" for Cartoonr anywhere at all. I'm baffled.

Thanks!

If you installed the 64 bit version of VS, and you obtained the NB filters separately i.e. they did not come as part of the X7 package, then it is because they are 32 bit filters which will not work with a 64 bit program. This is also a sore point for some of us here, like me, who bought NB Video Essentials packages 1 through to 6 a couple of years ago. These were at the time 32 bit packages, but they will not work with X7 64 bit. And NewBlue say they don't have 64 bit versions of the packages which will work with VS, despite providing elements of those packages which in fact do work with 64 bit VS. Moreover, those same packages 1 to 6 do have 64 bit versions which work with both Cyberlink Power Director 64 bit and Sony Movie Studio Platinum 64 bit. I know because I also have those programs and my Essentials packages work perfectly in them. So basically it is just a question of NB tweaking the packages to work with VS 64 bit.

Basically, this boils down to some sort of lack of agreement between NewBlue and Corel, probably over licensing fees. NewBlue say they are working on it, but it has been over a year since we first raised the issue with them and there has still been no progress.

Thank you very much Ken! I can't believe that Corel and NB would do that! I JUST bought the light effects last week! And that really angers me. NBFX weren't inexpensive to buy and to now have them NOT work, with no fix/upgrade outside of downgrading to 32X is really unprofessional. I didn't see a notice anywhere stating that the effects wouldn't be compatible with VS 64-bit, before purchasing. I've never been successful contacting them, either, but I want my money back for the useless light effects I just bought.

Latta, I'm not sure whether or not I have a 32-bit program in my download file but if it's included in VS7 Ultimate download, then I have it. I downloaded PSPX6 as well and it ended up having both, and installed both on its own. The problem with that could be that I'm doing a project which must be completed in 6 days, in the 64-bit version. Will that even open in the 32-bit version? Could I lose some items in the show?

I have to tell you, I'm pretty disappointed in this version, so far. Outside of this fiasco with NB effects, I've found this latest version nearly impossible to work with unless I'm laying down about 2 video tracks max. Then it slows down so bad I can't get anything to line up properly with the music. It looks perfect in the project but if I render it to a video (mp4) everything is off and I have to go back, take out anything I can, remake all the footage (I do a lot of overlay work with png files, chroma key videos, etc.), render it to a video and replace all the separate pieces. Then the lyric lineup won't work. The lyrics come in right on cue in the project, but when I render a video to check, they're all way too late. It's ridiculous and time wasting. Not a happy camper.

But sorry I ranted! Thank you very much for your help. Do you think, if I have a 32-bit version to install, that my current project will work in it?

Thanks!

With regard to New Blue, Corel are actively chasing New Blue to provide 64 bit versions of all the fx packages, New Blue have given positive feedback to Corel that 64 bit versions will be available soon.
