PSP8 - why has selection shape changed?

This was a Rectangle selection (not Rounded) so why after using Modify > Expand has it now become rounded? No feathering was set.

It's because of the method used to expand the selection.

If you want to grow the selection without rounding the corners, use this old Photoshop trick.

1) Selections -> Edit Selection
2) Grab Pick tool
3) Move, stretch, the selection until you're happy
4) Selections -> Edit Selection to accept your changes.

Method 2 works (and its noted restrictions don't bother me for my intended application). But sadly I cannot get Method 1 to work. That method has an important potential advantage, as it would let me resize the selection numerically in the Resize dialog. (As you may have guessed, the immediate application is my attempt to 'quarter' an image precisely, as described in my parallel post.)

When I follow Suz's instructions, I get the whole image resized, not the selection.

I'd appreciate your advice on this please.
