DOWNSCALING HD TO MPEG

Post by snowstorm »

Good morning

I have converted a project (46min)shot and rendered in HD to DVD Standard (720x480)Format.
The result looks terrible
I am using VSPro Ultimate x6
Here the original formats

NTSC/HDMV
H.264
UPPER FIELD FIRST
24 BITS;1920/1080;16:9
29.97 FPS
VARIABLE BIT RATE MAX 20000

AUDIO
DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1
448KBPS
Burned onto Bluray disk

HERE THE CONVERTED FORMATS
NTSC/DVD
MPEG-2 VIDEO
UPPER FIELD FIRST
24BITS;720X480;16:9
29.97 FPS
VARIABLE BIT RATE MAX 9696

AUDIO
48000 HZ;DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1
448 KBPS
To be burned onto a standard DVD

Is their any other format that would potentially increase the outcome quality

Thanks

"The result looks terrible" compared to what?

When viewed on 60" screen, I will add.

How do you know snowstorm is using a 60" screen?

ANyway, standard mpg video will not look that good on a 60" screen

Is there a specific reason you are having to make a DVD e.g. because you are going to distribute it to family and friends who don't have Blu-Ray players? If not, why not leave it as high def? These days I do all my projects in HD and leave them that way. I put them on USB stick drives or external hard drives, and plug those into my Blu-Ray player(s) (which are Sony PlayStation 3s) since my old 46" HDTV will not play them directly. But these days, many HDTVs will play AVCHD direct plugged into them.

Thanks Ken for your input

Yes the only reason why I have to downscale is because many people who wish to see the project don't have bluray/hdtv

I myself rarely burn bluray/dvd

I most of the time streamed my projects directly to my HDTV and used a external hard drive for my back up
and more recently use OneDrive also as a back-up

Also more and more people are asking to have my projects (95% hd)onto a USB Key

Hi Snowstorm

I am relatively new to HD video recording and like you wished to convert some of my video’s to standard definition.
Video Studio 7 quality was poor, or rather could be better, please read this post.

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 15#p287233

Unfortunately the links to the samples no longer work.

My only option is to use a third party video converter, the question is which one.?
