Sorry if this is a basic questions. How do I save pictures to Paintshop Pro X6 so they show when I open up?

Your pictures are stored somewhere in a folder on your computer. PSP accesses those pictures, so it can not be said that the pictures are stored in PSP.

Best place to start is in Manage mode. On the left side is the Navigation panel and within that is a tab called Computer, which shows all the directories in your drive, and a second called Collections. Your question was about how to quickly get to the photos you use most often. To do that it would be best to put the directories (folders) you use most often into Collections. Using Collections requires less searching than using Computer. To do that select Folders and "Browse more folders". When you click on that, a window opens that allows moving through your directories to the folder you want - select it and it appears under folders.

When you select a folder in Collections or Computer the thumbs in that folder are available in the display in Manage mode and in the Organizer. Organizer is also available in Edit mode so that you can select the photos you want to work on directly when in Edit. The folder you select is retained from one session to the next until you select a different folder.

Go to Preferences to select how you want to start your sessions, whether in Edit or Manage or last used. But to have the folder you want readily available I recommend figuring out Collections.
