Video Studio has stopped working

Post by jaysto »

Using Video Studio Pro x2, when I drag a clip to the time line I get the following Message, Video Studio has stopped working, it goes on to say windows will look for a solution, at that point the program then closes down and I have to start all over again I found that by moving the track curser? a little further in I can get the video to play correctly
Any help would be appreciated.

Well don't expect too much help since you have told us absolutely nothing about the Properties of video in question. What format, from what model camcorder or what other source? If it is AVCHD, for instance, X2 was simply not designed to handle high def video or at least not of the AVCHD variety!

Hi Jack

Can I assume you have downloaded this MP4 from the internet.

Does the problem occur with all your video files, if it is just this particular file then try downloading again, you may get a better copy.?

Have you installed the update packs which I recall were available for X2? I ask since I recall that there was a problem experienced by quite a few users of X2 with similar 1280 x720 video. That was in the very early days of AVCHD video. And again I can only say that if you are still using the same computer whose specifications are listed in your profile, then it is not really designed to handle AVCHD.

In Windows Control Panel, under System, you will find information about your computer set-up.

Your computer's CPU is over 4.5 years old and VS X2 even older. With the combination of those two factors, I go back to what I said at the outset: I don't believe either your computer or the program is up to handling the sort of high def video you are throwing at it. Normally I would suggest you use SmartProxy, where a standard definition copy is made of your high definition original. You edit that copy and when satisfied, the edits are applied to the high definition video. But I don't think SmartProxy was introduced until (well?) after VS X2 -- perhaps X4???

But first upgrade your computer. In the Corel site advertising VideoStudio there is a list of a minimum specification for your PC. Copy that out and get your supplier to spec a computer with better than the minimum.
I always use a tower system as it can be more easily up graded to cope with new software.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.
