VideoStudio y Pro crashes on rendering?

Post by Frustrated_movie_dad »

Hi:

I have been capturing video segments for my daughter using Bandi cam. I have tried various formats, currently it is H.264 CUDA (VBR) 0x480. I can import the files, work with them edit them, watch the project. But sure as ____, as soon as I go to 'Share' to render a file, I get to about 1%, if I'm lucky, then crash to desktop with no errors thrown or caught. This also occurred with ver 6. I was hoping the upgrade would fix it. Any ideas? Does VideoStudio write a crash log that I can sift through? This is with the latest version of VideoStudio 7 Pro 64 bit (17.1.0.22)

Cheers

First off, I am not really sure what 0 x 480 means. So can you please right click on one of your files in the VS timeline and copy ALL its Properties here.

You also don't tell us what format you are trying to create when you go to Share...

MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 with default settings. Although they all do it; it does not seem to be specific to anything I can nail down. As a test, I just read in a single file and got the same results after 40% of processing with the previously identified output formats. If someone wants to shoot me an email address I can send a link so someone else can see if they can duplicate.

Thanks for the interest and assist

Hi, I experienced exactly the same problem when rendering a small 15MB MP4 file. After weeks of trying to debug, I decided to re-install from scratch (clean install) an to not apply the latest patch supposed to fix such type of problem. Then everything works as before, no crash at all and rendering executed 100%. I repeated the problem three time by updating the latest Pack and confirmed the problem connected to the update. Have you tried to re-install the application, not to apply the Pack and run the same project? (PS: I'm running Corel Video Studio Pro X7). Wishing that helps.

Frustrated_movie_dad: I am not sure what is wrong at your end. I got your small sample video, but it renders perfectly well into both mpeg-2 and mpeg-4 at my end. Plays smoothly, no pixellation, and no crashes. I have to add, however, that with mpeg-2, it quickly rendered to 97% then appeared to hang for over a minute, but finally completed successfully when I left it alone. With mp4 it got to 95% then did the same, but again eventually completed successfully. I am wondering, therefore, if you gave it enough time. It could be that your own full project, which would have been much longer than the 4:23 second clip you sent me might have appeared to hang but in reality just needed to be left alone. Or did you get some sort of error message or the program actually crashed?

I am having a similar problem with x7, sp1
X7 will hang at always 46% of a 26 minute video, X7 is still on the screen, but unresponsive.
Have tried with and without smart render.
When it "hanges", its for at least 15 minutes.

But strange enough, will render with no problems on X5, when I create a X5 .vsp file from X7.
I have tried removing the clip at 46%, the file is reduced by the clips amount, but still hangs at 46%, on another clip.

The project is a mixture of 2 video types, .mov and .m2ts, which has never been a problem with X5, and was able to render 2 clips of these two types together in X7.

The "hang", don't know the proper term, is confirmed in TASK MANAGER as "not responding", and the render "pause" button no longer works.

Any and all help appreciated, BUG-EYED.

Hmmm. I recently upgraded from X5 to X7 as I was finding that video files I rendered were not as smooth as the originals. [I've created successful renders in the past]. With X7 I have the same issue - it just crashes at some point 3% or 49% or 68% !? I've been in touch with the support guys and tried various things (Proxy on/off, smart render, different formats. something I can get it to render OK (same clicks) so very confusing.

Updated Windows 7, Video driver etc.
Uninstalled and re installed

same problem, either renders but output file isn't as smooth as original or it locks up... very strange.

Last attempt was to uninstall but not load the Fix Pack 1. Renders but still jumpy.

Hi, Thanks for the background and suggestion! I bought the digital download version. It may already come with the update included as I do not recall specifically applying an update. I did run the check for updates and it says that none are available...so I got the latest version if nothing else. I'll look into it, thanks!

Hi Ken, I really appreciate you taking the time for that little QA step. It is illuminating, if a little disheartening. No, I get a hard crash to desktop. I'll add that little clip to the time line, go right over to Share, check MPEG-4 (or others), the progress bar will go to about 40% and then hard crash. The full project doesn't even get to 1%. This is a recent install, and a reasonably fresh Win 8 64 machine. I am wondering if it is related to something deeper, like slow memory I/O, a dependent sub-system that needs updating (Silver Light, Java, etc) or maybe as simple as file permissions or user accounts. Oh well, I now know it is not the source material, so that helps a lot.

Cheers!

An update for this bug

I tried inspecting the clip that X7 supposedly crashes on, absolutely no issues.
Will crash at random %, but seems to be effected by project length,..not sure though.

I tried using the preview while rendering option, but that fails well before X7 crashes, the window just goes black.

I know that since I did not try the software before the 30 warranty ran out, leaves me with no back up from Corel, but Corel should pay a little attention here to an obvious issue in X7.
