During Preview in UVS or in the rendered file when viewed using another program or on a standalone DVD player? If it is during Preview, don't worry about it. If not, please provide more information.

I found that when I had a digital video file captured from an analog (e.g. VHS) file, using crossfades shortened the video without shortening the audio track thus creating, later in the movie, noticeable OOS (out-of-synch) effects.

Removing the crossfade transitions took away the problem.

This doesn't happen when I edit my video from digicam.

I see in g the jerks in the rendered mpg file. The video I am editing is from a Digital camera down loaded in MPEG2 format at 5000Kb VBR. There is a small jerk at the end of the crossfade transition.
