Disk is not empty or disk error

Post by Rhonda1713 »

I tried the trial version of MF4, had problems burning, but after removing Data-add I was able to burn DVD's (after saving file as .iso first). I have changed nothing (that I am aware of at least) and now I am not able to burn again!! I get an error message that says "Disk is not empty or disk error" every time. I tried several different disks (both empty and -RW) and they all give me the same message. I cannot believe how frustrating MF4 has been thus far. Any help would be appreciated!

What's 'Data-add'? It sounds like a data packet writer. If that is running in the background, you need to shut it down. It will prevent Ulead and other writing programs from controlling the disc burner. It may also be formatting your blanks and this will cause other programs not to recognize them as blank.

Thank you for your response. Data-add comes with MF4. It was preventing me from being able to burn DVD's at all. I uninstalled the program already and that allowed me to begin burning DVD's. I don't know what happened between then and now to cause it to stop again. Any suggestions are appreciated.

"Disk is not empty or disk error"

Just like Rhonda1713, I get an error message that says "Disk is not empty or disk error" when I am trying to record to disc and I select "output". I am using MovieFactory 2SE. I have tried re-installing MF and switching blank DVDs but nothing works. It may be there is another data packet writer installed on my computer, but how do I check this?

check the technical support page of Ulead/MovieFactory. there is a burning patch that you can install to update it to the latest burning engine. see if it works.

other packet writing software like Nero InCD, Roxio DrgtoDisc, Sonic DLA, or Iomega HotBurn Pro can also cause such problems.

I downloaded the burning patch from the technical support page but this effort did not change anything....I got the same error message as before.
One thing that I've noticed is that the same disk drive will read a normal CD (in ULEAD, it tells me available disk space is 700MB) but it cannot read a blank DVD. Could the DVD reader be damaged but the CD reader still be OK?

packet - how to remove

Post by icecream »

I have the same problem - disc not empty or no disc in drive error.

Has anyone got any specific advice on what to remove and how to remove whatever is causing the problem? Thanks!

Hi, I am having a similar problem (I think) on MF 3.0.
After I select the Output option everything seems to be OK, but then right at the end I get a Source file had some problems : code 5003.
