AfterShotPro 2.1.0.40 ?

Post by gpe »

Hi,

I've saw at http://www.aftershotpro.com/en/support/updates/#tab=1 that there is an update but when I installed the package on my debian it seems that it's an AfterShot version not an AfterShotPro.
What about it ?

They messed up the names ;-)
No idea what the logic behind this is, but that is also the reason the install instructions for Linux explicitly state to de-install the previous version.

This is the first public version wit X-trans support...

Warning to non-English speakers on Mac & Linux

Post by Dutchmm »

If the Italian instructions are representative, the translation process has omitted to mention the need to de-install the previous version. I also checked the French version - no mention; Dutch - no mention. It looks to me as though the warning only appears in the English and German versions. Perhaps there are other omissions in the non-European languages, too?

If you install it, it will tell you it is the pro version.

thank you - it worked!

One thing that did change: I have the thumbnails under the picture - with the last version I was able to scroll (only) horizontal (thumbnail size was scaled with a slider on the right side - like it is shown in the help file) - now there are lines and columns and the slider is below the thumbnails.
How to change this ?

I tried that - but this only works if the thumbnails are in a vertical line - not if the line is horizontal.
Also -scaling of landscape and portrait only works with vertical thumbnail-line. This feature was fine for panoramas ...

I am on linux (ubuntu 12.04)

Ouch, I just tried it, silly bug.
I never use thumbs at the bottom as I don't do panos and todays 16:9/16:10 screens are better utilized with a vertical strip for regular size images.

I'll open up a bug report.

ok - thank you

another thing I noticed - I am happy to see (i can import and rename them) my nikon coolpix p330 pictures - but something is wrong with the colors - they are greenish. No chance to correct that with white balance settings ...

See screenshot - first picture developed with photivo (here as a 16bit tif) second: jpg out of the camera and the raw as displayed by ASP:
too much contrast - green tint over the hole picture.
Has anybody noticed this problem with p330 pictures?

Good to see that Corel have implemented the HDR module as promised, not sure that I will ever use it however.

Now if they could just sort out the WB issues with the Pentax K-5 Profile and give us a 64bit Gradfilter I'd probably be a happy user.

Interesting to see that the 64bit version of 2.1.0.40 under Linux mint 17 uses the correct theme and decorations for dialogues, etc.
Whilst the 32bit still uses the old style clunky dialogues.
Is this because I have the 64 bit version of Linux Mint?

Basically, it is pretty cool that they implemented X-Trans support. I opened some of my X-E2 images and unfortunately the demosaicing seems to be really poor. For example such artifacts as in the attached 100% crop:
DSCF6818.asp.jpg
Or is there any option I could have tweaked to avoid these artifacts?

This is the output from darktable without optimizations:

This was reported during beta testing.

Not that I've found.

I don't regard the x-trans support as usable at this stage, which is a pity as I don't think that it's too bad otherwise. Certainly way better than the initial LR attempt, apart from the issue you highlighted.

I feel a bit degraded when there's no Pro in the name anywhere in the application work area, unless I open the splash screen under Help > About Aftershot 2...
That is by far the only place it says I'm running the Pro version. Everywhere else, it's just AfterShot 2 :?

Yes, I do have HDR and everything else, but please Corel; If I purchase the PRO version, I would certainly want to have it appear that way, and not be left with the low down feeling of the stripped down entry level version when working with my images...
