A Long-Shot, But...

Post by jsg »

There was a photo effect in Photoshop that allowed me to take two colors and mix them together in a cloud-like pattern, very fine for portrait backgrounds and with endless variations.

I have been trying to simulate the same or very similar effect in Paintshop Pro X7 Ultimate but have not found an effect that can create a cloudy background using two colors. The closest I've gotten is to create a two color background, apply patterns, gaussian blur and textures, but I still have been unable to get the effect I want (here's an example: http://www.jerrygerber.com/photography/ ... ith-BG.jpg).

I'd be much appreciative if someone knows how to do it and will tell me.

Thanks,
Jerry

You're talking about the render clouds effect. Also known as perlin noise.

PSP does not have this effect built in, but if you installed the KPT plugins that come with PSP (32-bit version is necessary to use these plugins) there is a plugin that can do exactly what you want. In fact it can use full gradients not just two colors.

KPT Noize lets you add various noise patterns to an image. Including soft clouds/render clouds.

Your other option is to use software like the GIMP that has the effect built in. Before KPT Noize was given with PSP I would use the GIMP to create the render clouds for me and then copy and paste them into PSP.

Thanks very much for the tip LeviFiction! I downloaded the KPT effects for the 32-bit version of PSP and the cloud patterns are exactly what I am looking for!

Thanks,

Thanks Levi!
I usually use Xara for that effect (also built in and very adjustable) and export.

Note to self: must fiddle with KPT filters more often :-)
