sometimes other software install/replace codecs in your system which could upset MovieFactory. I have Pinnacle Studio9, Premiere Pro, Roxio (without DragtoDisc) and Nero (no InCD) on my system and I dont encounter much problems with MovieFactory. What im doing is I use Premiere to edit the videos since it has more editing tools and then just use MF4 to burn it to DVD.
The software will skip encoding it provided the video was exported as compliant DVD mpeg file and "Do not convert compliant..." option is enable in the project settings. But if you edit the video in MF4 even if it is compliant and the "Do not convert..." option is turned on, MF4 will re-encode the video again.
